CBS basks in
glow of repeats

Big #s for 'CSI,' 60 Mins.' and 'Raymond' reruns

By David Moore

Ever since "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" turned summer from a dumping ground into a battlefield, much attention has focused on reality shows and their ability to reach young adults, especially during the hot months.
This season it's Fox's "American Idol" and NBC's "Dog Eat Dog" that are grabbing headlines and 18-49s.
But to the extent that the summer ratings race continues to be about whose shows hang onto their audience best in reruns, CBS is holding its own, despite being without a big-deal reality show at the moment.
It continues to dominate in households and total viewers, and last week "CSI" reclaimed the No. 1 ranking in the adults 18-49 demographic from "American Idol."
The repeat of “CSI” was the top show across the board, grabbing a 5.1 rating and 16 share in adults 18-49 and leading the way in both households and total viewers for the week.
The other two leaders in households and total viewers also belonged to CBS, repeats of “60 Minutes” (8.2/17 in households) and “Everybody Loves Raymond” (8.2/14).
Meanwhile, NBC's big push behind "Scrubs" paid off, as episodes of the medical sitcom claimed four spots in the top 20 shows among adults 18-49.
CBS easily ranked No. 1 for the week in households with a 5.9 and total viewers with a 3.1. NBC placed second with a 4.8.
ABC climbed out of fourth place with a 4.2, courtesy of a much-hyped “20/20” interview on Friday with Tatum O’Neal, the aggrieved ex-wife of tennis pro John McEnroe. Fox fell to a 3.5 rating in households.
In adults, NBC led the way with a 2.6. Fox came in second with a 2.3 last week, down from 2.6 the week before. CBS and ABC both made slight gains week-over-week to end up tied at 2.2.
“American Idol” dipped slightly week-over-week with a 4.5 in adults, making it the second and fourth most-watched show of the week in that demo. But the Tuesday edition of the chart climber fell to 22 in households last week, down from 15 the week before.
NBC continued to get a strong performance from its limited run summer reality series “Dog Eat Dog.” The show placed third in adults with a 4.5 and 13th in households with a 6.1/10.
The “Law and Order” franchise kept the numbers up for NBC, with the flagship show placing sixth for the week in households with a 6.9. Its sister shows “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Crime and Punishment” tied for 20th place last week, while “Law and Order: Criminal Intent” held down tenth place.
ABC’s “20/20” draw pulled a 7.7 rating in households, putting it in fourth place for the week. The Barbara Walters interview with O’Neal was ABC’s best showing of the week in adults 18-49 with a 3.4.
Fox saw its ratings fall the most of the big four networks last week, but still received strong showings from “The Simpsons,” 3.8 in adults, and “That ‘70s Show,” 3.3.
As much as CBS relied on its regulars for last week’s victory, even its primetime special edition of “The Price Is Right” cracked the top ten in households with a 6.5/12.
