Twitterverse: ‘Argo’ will win best picture
February 22, 2013
So which film will win best picture at Sunday’s Oscars?
“Argo,” if you believe social media.
The social media analytics company General Sentiment studied Twitter conversations regarding Oscar nominees from Jan. 20 to Feb. 19.
It found that Twitter users think “Argo,” the Ben Affleck-directed drama about the 1970s Iran hostage crisis, will win best picture. Potential spoilers: “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Twitter users think Daniel Day-Lewis will win best actor for his turn as President Abraham Lincoln in “Lincoln,” with “Les Miserables’” Hugh Jackman the only possible spoiler.
Tweeters favor “Amour’s” Emmanuelle Riva, the oldest actress ever to be nominated in the best actress category, to win, a bit of a surprise. Her main challengers according to the study will be “Wild’s” Quvenzhané Wallis, the youngest actress ever nominated, and “Dark’s” Jessica Chastain.
Interestingly, most critics say the best actress race is between “Playbook’s” Jennifer Lawrence and “The Impossible’s” Naomi Watts.
