Promising debut for NBC’s Tuesday lineup
New comedy 'Go On' bows to a 3.4 in 18-49s
September 12, 2012
Against minimal competition, NBC’s new Tuesday lineup got off to a good start, but whether it holds up once the other networks debut their fall shows over the next two weeks is the big question.
“The Voice” was the No. 1 show on broadcast for the second straight night, averaging a 3.9 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen, down 7 percent from Monday’s 4.2 two-hour premiere. That rating went up by a tenth when final numbers came out.
"Voice" was only an hour last night, airing at 8 p.m. It averaged a 3.7 in the 8 p.m. hour Monday night.
“Voice” was up from a 3.2 for its first Tuesday episode last spring, though ratings are down quite a bit from the show’s first two episodes of last season, which had the huge advantage of premiering behind the Super Bowl and the night after the game.
“Voice” gave a nice lead-in to the 9 p.m. premiere of the new comedy “Go On,” which became NBC’s top-rated new comedy bow since “Outsourced” two years ago, averaging a 3.4. It retained 87 percent of “Voice’s” lead-in.
It debuted with a much lower rating than a special sneak preview of “Go” earned over the summer, but that was expected. That special episode aired right after Olympic coverage and drew a 5.6.
“Go’s” lead-out, the new comedy “The New Normal,” earned a solid 2.5 at 9:30, the same as its sneak preview averaged at 10 p.m. Monday behind “Voice.”
And at 10, “Parenthood” returned for season four with a 1.9, down from a 2.2 last year, when it had a bigger lead-in airing behind “America’s Got Talent.”
The only original competition against NBC last night among the Big Four was Fox’s special edition of “So You Think You Can Dance,” which drew a 1.5 from 8 to 10 p.m.
NBC was first for the night among 18-49s with a 2.9 average overnight rating and an 8 share. Univision was second at 1.6/5, Fox third at 1.5/4, CBS fourth at 1.2/3, ABC fifth at 0.7/2, Telemundo sixth at 0.6/2 and CW seventh at 0.3/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback, which includes shows replayed before 3 a.m. the night before. Seven-day DVR data won't be available for several weeks. Forty-five percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. NBC led with a 3.9 for "Voice," followed by Univision with a 1.4 for "Por Ella Soy Eva" (1.6) and the start of a soccer match between Mexico and Costa Rica (1.2). CBS and Fox tied for third at 1.2, CBS for a repeat of "NCIS" and Fox for "So You Think You Can Dance," with ABC fifth with a 0.9 for reruns of "The Middle" and "Last Man Standing," Telemundo sixth with a 0.5 for "Rosa Diamante" and CW seventh with a 0.3 for a repeat of "Hart of Dixie."
NBC was first again at 9 p.m. with a 3.0 for "Go" (3.4) and "Normal" (2.5), with Fox and Univision tied for second at 1.7, Fox for more "Dance" and Univision for soccer. CBS was fourth with a 1.1 for a repeat of "Hawaii Five-0," ABC fifth with a 0.7 for repeats of "Happy Endings" and "Don't Trust the B—- in Apartment 23," Telemundo sixth with a 0.6 for "Corazon Valiente" and CW seventh with a 0.2 for "The Next."
At 10 p.m. NBC led with a 1.9 for "Parenthood," with Univision second with a 1.6 for more soccer. CBS was third with a 1.2 for a repeat of "NCIS: Los Angeles," Telemundo fourth with a 0.6 for "Pablo Escobar: El Patron del Mal" (0.8) and "El Rostro de la Venganza" (0.4) and ABC fifth with a 0.5 for a "Private Practice" rerun.
NBC also led the night among households with a 5.4 average overnight rating and a 9 share. CBS was second at 5.1/8, Fox third at 2.6/4, ABC and Univision tied for fourth at 1.7/3, Telemundo sixth at 0.8/1 and CW seventh at 0.4/1.
