Fox has added Niecy Nash to the cast of “The Mindy Project,” in a recurring role as a rival to star Mindy Kaling’s character. Nash most recently appeared on “Bad Teacher” and “The Soul Man,” and before that she was the longtime host of Style Network’s “Clean House.”
Universal Television has named Dan Shear vice president of comedy development, reporting to executive vice president Tracey Pakosta. Shear was most recently an agent at WME.
Actor Jesse Metcalfe will guest on CBS’s “2 Broke Girls” this season, playing a possible love interest to Kat Dennings‘ character. Metcalfe appears on “Dallas,” and he’s also previously had roles on “Chase” and “Desperate Housewives.”
Digital agency Big Spaceship has made five promotions, naming Rob Thorsen managing director, Mark Pollard executive vice president of strategy, Chris Fahey senior vice president of product and user experience, Victor Piñiero vice president of social, and Tony Clement vice president of analytics. Thorsen had been head of client services, Pollard vice president of brand strategy, Fahey vice president of product and user experience, Piñiero content director, and Clement strategy director for analytics.
BIA/Kelsey has named Stacey Sedbrook vice president of strategic sales consulting, putting her in charge of the company’s sales consulting practice. Sedbrook was previously vice president of digital at Beasley Broadcast Group.
Time Inc. has named Nathan Lump editor of Travel + Leisure, replacing the retired Nancy Novogrod. Lump was most recently director of branded content at Condé Nast.
Saveur magazine has named Erica Duecy digital director, effective Sept. 2. Duecy was most recently deputy web editor at Fodor’s Travel, and she’s also author of the cocktail book “Storied Sips.”
Kristen Painter has been named a business reporter at The Star Tribune in Minneapolis, covering growth and development. Painter, who begins Aug. 28, previously covered aviation and airlines at The Denver Post.
Caitlin Dineen has joined the Orlando Sentinel as a business reporter, beginning Wednesday. Dineen joins from the Star-News in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she was also a business reporter.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle has promoted Dan Nielsen to business editor, taking over for the departed Glenn Puit. Nielsen had been night supervisor at the newspaper.
Steven Strait and Shohreh Aghdashloo have joined the cast of Syfy’s “The Expanse,” a 10-episode project based on a book series. Strait previously made a pair of appearances on “Revenge,” while Aghdashloo’s most recent TV role was on “Grimm.”
