Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley has joined the cast of Spike TV’s upcoming event series “Tut,” playing Ay, the Grand Vizier to King Tutankhamun. This will be a rare TV role for Kingsley–his most recent TV roles were in the 2006 British kids’ series “Jackanory” and in the 2001 miniseries “Anne Frank: The Whole Story,” according to IMDb.
CNN has brought in Alisyn Camerota as an anchor, contributing to all of the network’s programs before a permanent role/show is decided. Camerota was most recently at Fox News Channel, where she co-hosted “America’s News Headquarters.”
Ad agency Erwin Penland has made two additions in its Greenville office, naming Craig Melchiano executive vice president and executive creative director and Bee Reynolds associate creative director. Both previously worked at Goodby Silverstein & Partners.
SK+G has made a pair of hires in its customer relationship management arm Trialogue Direct, naming Barbara Pape director of client services and Julia Porche-Garcia assistant account executive. Pape joins from Bopi, Porche-Garcia from The Proper Image.
Tennille Teague has joined ad agency Pereira & O’Dell New York, becoming head of production. Teague was previously senior content producer at Translation.
Jeffrey Schwartz has been named executive vice president of corporate strategy at Yahoo Sports Radio, a newly created position. Schwartz was previously manager of sales and promotion and director of operations at a handful of radio stations in Chicago. Yahoo Sports Radio has also brought in Amanda Deutchman, naming her director of marketing and business development. She was previously at Fox Sports Radio Network.
Blog ad network Federated Media Publishing has made two hires, naming Debbie Menin head of video business development and Alyssa Vitrano executive producer of video strategy. Menin joins from Machinima, Vitrano from Mindshare.
CBS has added actress Ophelia Lovibond to the cast of “Elementary” for its third season, in a recurring role as Sherlock Holmes’ new apprentice in New York. Lovibond previously starred in the UK sitcom “Mr. Sloane.”
Telemundo has added four to its upcoming music competition “Buscando Mi Ritmo,” adding singer Eli Jas, actor and singer Lino Martone, Dominican actor and singer Jose Guillermo Cortines and Mexican actress Tali Duclaud. As previously announced, telenovela actress Gaby Espino will host the show, which premieres July 19.
Actress Gabrielle Walsh has joined the cast of CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” in a recurring role, with her first appearance coming on the Oct. 2 episode. Walsh previously appeared in the movie “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.”
