MTV’s countdown show “TRL” is back–kind of. On July 2 the network will air a brief revival of the old Carson Daly-hosted show, renamed “Total Ariana Live,” featuring singer and “Sam and Cat” star Ariana Grande. MTV personality Sway Calloway will host the one-off special, which will air from the network’s Times Square studio as it did in the Daly and Damien Fahey days.
Starz has named David Weil executive vice president and general counsel, reporting to chief executive officer Chris Albrecht. Weil was most recently chief executive at Walden Media/Bristol Bay Productions.
Longtime college sports commentator Tim Brando will join Fox Sports later this year, making his first appearances during the first week of the college football season. Brando, who was previously at CBS, will also contribute to the network’s college basketball coverage.
Rob Dyrdek, who hosts MTV’s “Ridiculousness,” has signed a new multi-year deal at the network, under which he will appear in a seventh season of his other show, “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dyrdek has been with the network since 2006, when he starred in “Rob & Big.”
Actor Craig Roberts has joined the cast of Amazon’s pilot “Red Oaks,” playing the lead role in the 1985-set project, according to Deadline. Roberts’ previous TV series roles include “Skins” and “Being Human.”
Alexei Orlov has been named chief executive officer at RAPP, beginning in July. Orlov joins from Volkswagen Group, where he was chief marketing officer for the Greater China and ASEAN region.
Deutsch LA has named Matt O’Rourke executive creative director, co-leading the agency’s digital work along with Jerome Austria. O’Rourke was previously a creative director at Wieden+Kennedy.
Moroch Partners has made three hires, naming Sam Chadha chief integration officer, Glenn Geller managing partner of brand planning strategy and Dina Light-McNeely partner and director of digital and social strategy. Chadha joins from Starcom MediaVest Group, Geller from Lowe Campbell Ewald and Light-McNeely from RAPP.
Alan L. Creighton has been named chief executive officer at MDnetSolutions, which handles digital marketing in the healthcare field. Creighton previously founded Momentum Telecom.
Wenner Media has made a pair of promotions, naming David Kang chief revenue officer for Rolling Stone and Men’s Journal, and Gus Wenner head of digital, working with the sites of Rolling Stone, Us Weekly and Men’s Journal. Kang had been chief digital officer, while Wenner was director of RollingStone.com.
Caleb Bankston, a former contestant on CBS’s “Survivor,” died on Tuesday at age 26 when the train he was working on derailed, according to People. Bankston appeared on the “Blood vs. Water” season of the reality competition. He was engaged to marry Colton Cumbe, who also appeared on the show that season.
