CBS Television Distribution has named Leon Knoles director of the upcoming syndicated “Arsenio Hall Show,” which premieres on Sept. 9. Knoles has previously directed a number of PBS specials, such as “The Tenors Lead With Your Heart” and “The National Tree Lighting.” He has also served as technical director on shows including “American Idol,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Real Time With Bill Maher” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
CBS Corp. has named Ray Hopkins president of television network distribution, reporting to chief operating officer Joseph Ianniello. Hopkins was most recently chief operating officer at YES Network.
FremantleMedia North America has made two scripted programming and development hires, naming Craig Cegielski executive vice president and Stefanie Berk senior vice president. Cegielski joins from Open Circle Entertainment, Berk from Playtone.
FX Networks has promoted Nick Grad, Eric Schrier and Chuck Saftler to presidents, Grad and Schrier for original programming and Saftler for program strategy, as well as chief operating officer. All three were previously executive vice presidents.
Jim Spellman has joined CCTV America as a correspondent, based in Washington, D.C. Spellman was previously a correspondent at CNN, where he had been for 11 years.
Sundance Channel has picked up the series “Dream School,” from executive producers Jamie Oliver and Curtis Jackson, better known as the rapper 50 Cent. The show will give dropouts a chance to attend a school staffed by musicians, politicians, filmmakers, actors and artists.
Brigid Brannagh and Reiko Aylesworth have signed on to guest on Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva” for the show’s upcoming fifth season. Brannagh also appears on “Army Wives,” while Aylesworth most recently made an appearance on “Person of Interest.”
Julie Bloom has been named culture for The International New York Times, which had been the International Herald Tribune. Bloom had been The New York Times’ online culture editor.
Spin has named Jem Aswad editor in chief, replacing the departed Caryn Ganz. Aswad has previously held positions at Billboard.biz, MTV News and Time Out New York.
National Geographic has promoted Chris Johns to executive vice president and group editorial director, in addition to his role as editor in chief. The move means Johns will lead the title’s print, digital and video content. The magazine has also made three hires, naming Matt Mansfield executive editor of digital content, Keith Jenkins director of photography and Mike Schmidt multimedia director. Also, Sarah Leen has been promoted from senior photo editor to director of photography.
Jackson Huynh has been named chief operating officer at Flingo, which produces smart TV apps. Huynh was previously global head of AdMob As Operations at Google.
Clear Channel Outdoor has promoted Pru Parkinson, naming her chief marketing officer. Parkinson had been international sales and marketing director.
