ABC News has made a pair of additions, including Byron Pitts as an anchor and chief national correspondent. Pitts had been at CBS News for 15 years, regularly filling in at “60 Minutes” and covering both national and international stories. In his 2009 memoir, Pitts detailed being illiterate until age 12 and overcoming a severe stutter. ABC News has also named Morgan Hertzan vice president and executive in charge of nonfiction content development. He joins from Plum TV.
Jon Wax has been named senior vice president of scripted programming at WGN America and Tribune Studios, beginning in May when his contract at 20th Century Fox Television expires. At Fox, Wax has most recently been working as vice president of development.
ABC is working on a potential spinoff of “Once Upon a Time” called “Once: Wonderland,” and it has cast Sophie Lowe in the lead role as Alice. Peter Gadiot has also joined the project, playing the love interest of Alice.
Telemundo has named Jorge Bernal co-host of its upcoming “The Voice” spinoff “La Voz Kids,” working alongside Daisy Fuentes. Bernal is also entertainment anchor for the network’s newsmagazine “Al Rojo Vivo con María Celeste.”
Cory Monteith, who plays Finn on Fox’s “Glee,” has entered rehab to treat substance addiction, the second time he has done so. Two years ago the actor told Parade magazine that he entered rehab when he was 19 years old.
Shain Gandee, who appeared in the MTV reality series “Buckwild,” was found dead along with two others in a car near Sissonville, W.Va., after he hadn’t been seen over the weekend. No official cause has been given. In a statement MTV said, “We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends.”
Gannett has named Beryl Love global news desk editor, a new position at the newspaper publisher. Love was most recently executive editor at the Reno Gazette-Journal.
NBCUniversal’s Golf Channel Digital has made two moves, hiring Jeff Cravens as general manager and promoting Mike Lowe to vice president of product development and user experience. Cravens was previously a consultant for NBC Sports Group, while Lowe has been with the company since 2010.
Online news source NowThis News has brought in Frank Kavilanz, naming him senior vice president of strategy and business development. Kavilanz joins from NBC News, where he was vice president of strategy and business development.
Melissa Bonnick has been named senior director of advertising operations at Genesis Media, a video advertising technology company. Bonnick was most recently director of advertising and sponsorships at I-play.
Forbes has made two promotions, naming Tom Davis chief marketing officer for Forbes Media and Jack Laschever president of Forbes Conferences. Davis was previously vice president of sales and marketing, while Laschever had been CMO.
Condé Nast has named Molly Baldwin director of editorial operations for GolfDigest.com, effective April 22. Baldwin had been group director at Condé Nast Productions.
Paul Williams, a rock music journalist who founded Crawdaddy Magazine, died last week of complications from dementia at age 64. Williams also wrote more than 20 books and freelanced for a number of publications throughout his career.
