James Harding, editor of The Times of London newspaper in the UK for the past five years, has resigned from his position, saying it became clear that News Corp. wanted to replace him. His exit comes after The Times was critical of parent company News International, which has been under fire since the News of the World hacking scandal broke last year.
Matt Howell has been named chief digital officer at Havas Creative, in charge of digital strategy for all of the group’s agencies. Howell is also global chief digital officer at Arnold Worldwide.
Milwaukee agency Cramer-Krasselt has named Jaime Diskin vice president and creative director, working with clients including the BRP brands Sea-Doo, Spyder and Evinrude. Diskin was previously creative director at AKQA in San Francisco.
Gavin Lester has been named group creative director at Deutsch, working in the agency’s Los Angeles office. Lester had been creative director at 180 in Los Angeles.
Greg Zippi has been named vice president of sales at BlogFrog, which handles content-driven campaigns online. Zippi is a former vice president of sales for visitor acquisition products at Adobe.
Katz Television Group has launched a new ad sales operations unit, naming Michael Lawless vice president and director. Lawless had been vice president and director of Katz’s Millennium Sales and Marketing.
Spanish-language TV company Azteca has made two hires, naming Ricardo Garcia local manager and Rolando Santos head of affiliate sales. Both Garcia and Santos will work with the company’s expansion into Central America and the Dominican Republic.
L.A. Reid will not return for the third season of “The X Factor,” he told “Access Hollywood.” Reid, the CEO of Epic Records, said he needs to return to running his business but did not rule out a return to the show in the future.
Former “X-Files” star Gillian Anderson has joined the cast of NBC’s upcoming drama “Hannibal,” playing Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s therapist. Anderson’s most recent TV role was on the UK’s “The Fall.”
Joe. L Allbritton, founder of Allbritton Communications, which owns Politico, NewsChannel 8 and ABC7, died on Wednesday of heart ailments at age 87. In 1975 Allbritton bought the Washington Star and a TV station it owned. Three years later he sold the paper but kept the TV station, along with a handful of others he’d accumulated, creating the base of what’s now Allbritton Communications.
Turner has named Lincoln Lopez vice president of social media strategy, working with TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies. Lopez had been vice president of digital marketing and social media at VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia.
Online advertising technology company PubMatic has added Shrirang Bapat to its staff, naming him vice president of engineering. Bapat had been global head of research and development and head of product operations for India at Amdoc.
