Tom Ascheim has been named president at ABC Family, reporting to Disney/ABC Television Group president Anne Sweeney. Ascheim is a former general manager at Nickelodeon and chief executive officer at Newsweek. He was most recently executive vice president at Sesame Learning.
Cable network Pivot has made two hires, naming Jennie Morris senior vice president of acquisitions and operations and Jerry Blake senior vice president of business and legal affairs. Morris joins from AMC/Sundance Channel Global, Blake from BBC Worldwide Americas.
Bette Midler will produce and star in “Mae West,” a movie about the actress in development at HBO. The movie will be based on West’s autobiography, “Goodness Had Nothing To Do With It.”
Philadelphia agency LevLane has named Myles Kellam director of client development, a new position at the agency. Kellam was previously director of brand solutions at DiMassimo Goldstein in New York.
CBS has promoted Elizabeth Tumulty to president of affiliate relations, reporting to CBS Corp. president and chief executive Les Moonves. Tumulty joined the network in June as executive vice president of affiliate relations.
Bear Fisher has been named senior vice president of marketing and brand strategy at NBCUniversal, working with the Television & New Media Distribution and NBCU Domestic Television Distribution divisions. Fisher was most recently senior vice president of brand strategy and creative director at Style Network.
Perhaps a mini “Will & Grace” reunion will perk up NBC’s low-rated new comedy “Sean Saves the World.” Megan Mullally will guest on the sitcom, appearing alongside former “Grace” co-star Sean Hayes. Mullally will play the sister of Hayes’ character.
Actor and comedian Kevin Pollak has joined the cast of CBS’s first-year comedy “Mom,” playing the missing father of Anna Faris‘ character. Pollak will make his first appearance in the show on an episode airing next month.
Actor Dann Florek, who has appeared in 401 episodes of NBC’s “Law & Order” franchise, is leaving “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” recently filming his final episode. Florek appeared on the original “Law & Order” for three seasons as Captain Donald Cragen before appearing on “SVU” for 15 years.
Hearst Newspapers has named Vernon Loeb managing editor at The Houston Chronicle, effective Jan. 15. Loeb was most recently metro editor at The Washington Post.
CBS Radio has named Jeff Sottolano director of programming, beginning on Jan. 2. Sottolano will join from CBS’s WIP-AM/FM in Philadelphia, where he is program director.
Rubicon Project, an online advertising technology company, has made four additions, naming Anthony “Tony” Katsur senior vice president of operations, Mari Kim Novak senior vice president of global advertising solutions, Ryan Polley senior vice president of business development, and Shekhar Yadav senior vice president of open platform. Katsur joins from Maxifier, Novak from Microsoft, Polley from comScore, and Yadav from Google.
