Cliff Ransom has been promoted to editor in chief at Popular Science magazine, effective immediately. Ransom had been executive editor since February 2011. He has also previously held positions at The Sciences, Discover, Budget Travel and National Geographic Adventure.
Harper’s Bazaar has named Stephen Mooallem executive editor, taking over for the departing Kimberly Cutter. Mooallem had been editor in chief at Interview magazine.
Carolyn Bigda has joined Kiplinger’s Personal Finance as a contributing editor, focusing on investing topics. Bigda was previously at Money Magazine, where she wrote about market trends, individual stocks and mutual funds.
Ogilvy has brought in Andre Laurentino as global executive creative director, working with the agency’s Unilever account. Laurentino, who will be based in London, was previously executive creative director at TBWA.
The San Francisco Chronicle has named Kitty Morgan assistant managing editor, as well as lifestyle content director. Morgan, who has previously served as editor in chief at Sunset Magazine and executive editor at Better Homes and Gardens, will lead the paper’s Style, Food & Wine, and Home & Garden sections.
A&E Networks has made a pair of moves, including hiring Henry Hoberman as executive vice president and general counsel. Hoberman had been senior executive vice president, global general counsel and secretary at the Motion Picture Association of America. A&E has also promoted Douglas Jacobs, moving him to executive vice president and senior counsel. Jacobs has been with A&E since 2006.
TVGN has named David Mandell executive vice president and general counsel, reporting to president of operations Dennis Miller and president of entertainment and media Brad Schwartz. Mandell previously held a similar position at Mandalay Digital Group.
Clear Channel Media and Entertainment has named Mark Adams vice president of programming, in charge of the company’s eight stations in Portland. Adams was most recently vice president of music programming at CBS Radio in Houston.
Tal Perry has been named chief business officer at MassiveImpact, a mobile advertising technology company. Perry joins from AppNext, where he was vice president of business development.
Cross channel digital ad provider Adconion Direct has named Raj Gill vice president of automotive, working out of its new Detroit office. Gill had been vice president and associate digital media director at Team Detroit.
Poison front man Bret Michaels has signed to guest on NBC’s “Revolution,” playing himself in an episode to air next year. Actor Daniel Henney will also appear this season in a recurring role, signing on for a three-episode arc.
