Fox has named Simon Andreae executive vice president of alternative entertainment, replacing Mike Darnell as head of the network’s reality programming. Andreae was previously senior vice president of development and production for the West Coast at Discovery Channel. Darnell exited the network earlier this year.
Elsewhere at Fox, Fox Networks Group has promoted Michael Biard to president of distribution, replacing Mike Hopkins, who left the company to become chief executive at Hulu. Biard has been with Fox for 13 years.
Mike Tedone has been named executive vice president of national and direct response sales at Viacom Media Networks Music and Entertainment, reporting to head of sales Jeff Lucas. Tedone has been with Viacom for eight years, and before that he was at NBCUniversal.
Digital agency The Barbarian Group has promoted Sophie Kelly to chief executive officer, replacing co-founder Benjamin Palmer, who will stay on as chairman. Kelly had been president at the agency.
HBO has made two promotions, naming Casey Bloys and Michael Ellenberg executive vice presidents of programming. Bloys will continue to work on development and production of comedies, while Ellenberg will work with drama series.
Actress Mira Sorvino has joined the cast of TNT’s “Falling Skies” for its upcoming fourth season in a recurring role as a former graphic designer. Sorvino’s most recent TV role was in the TNT pilot “Trooper,” which didn’t make it to series.
TV Guide Magazine has named Jack Kliger chief executive officer, after working as a senior adviser at the title since 2009. Kliger was president and chief executive officer at Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. from 1999 to 2008.
Bauer Publishing’s upcoming celebrity weekly Closer has made three additions, naming Lisa Chambers executive editor, Galina Espinoza executive articles editor and Ron Kelly features director. Chambers joins from TV Guide, Espinoza from Latina, and Kelly from Ladies Home Journal.
Saveur magazine has brought in writer Camper English as contributing drinks editor, beginning with the November issue. English has previously contributed at Details.com, ShakeStir.com, FSR magazine, Mixology Magazine in Germany and DiffordsGuide.com in the UK.
About.com has named Brian Colbert chief revenue officer, a new position at the company. Colbert was previously vice president of mobile advertising sales at Pandora.
BuzzFeed has brought in Mark Schoofs, naming him head of its investigative reporting unit. Schoofs joins from ProPublica, where he was a senior editor.
Kevin Garrity has been named president and chief executive officer at McGavren Guild, a media rep firm. Garrity was previously a manager at McGavren Guild’s parent company, Genesis Media Holdings.
