ABC has ordered a pilot for a new half-hour comedy from comedian Kevin Hart, based on his stand-up act. Hart likely won’t star in the comedy, about a divorced couple who tries to get along for the sake of their kids, but he will likely have a recurring role.
Trouble behind the scenes? Neal Kendall, executive producer of the syndicated “Arsenio Hall Show,” has stepped down from his position just four weeks into the show’s run, according to Deadline. Kendall will reportedly be replaced by Eric Pankowski, who is senior vice president of programming and development at CBS Television Distribution. “Hall” debuted to decent numbers, beating the late-night competition in key demos, but the comedian’s ratings have cooled off a bit since then.
Telemundo has signed on actress Aracely Arambula to star in a telenovela adaptation of “Les Miserables,” which will be written by Venezuelan screenwriter Valentina Parraga. Arambula most recently appeared in Telemundo’s “La Patrona.”
Actors Kim Raver and William Devane are set to appear in Fox’s “24: Live Another Day,” the upcoming limited revival of the network’s drama. Both Raver and Devane joined the original incarnation of “24″ in its fourth season.
Horizon Media has named Tiffany Kirk vice president and managing director, in charge of the agency’s local broadcast team in Los Angeles. Kirk was previously vice president and director of activation at the agency 4D.
Blitz Media has made a pair of promotions, naming Suzy Hill group account director and Melissa Chase media supervisor. Hill was previously an account director, while Chase was a media planner.
Philadelphia Inquirer editor Bill Marimow has been fired from his position at the newspaper, with Stan Wischnowski stepping in as acting editor. Marimow apparently had differences with publisher Bob Hall, leading to the move. Hall told Philly.com, “We were having some philosophical differences on decisions for the Inquirer and I decided to go a different way.” This was Marimow’s second stint as editor of the Inquirer. He previously serving in the role from 2006 to 2010, and rejoined the paper last year.
Dow Jones has named Trevor Fellows head of global advertising sales, after he previously served as Bloomberg’s head of global media sales in the U.S. and UK. The move comes after Dow Jones chief revenue officer Michael Rooney went on sabbatical.
Eric Kessler, president and chief operating officer at HBO, is leaving the network after 27 years. HBO will not fill the vacant COO position. In a memo to staff, network chief executive Richard Plepler wrote, “After careful consideration we have decided that the COO position does not best serve the most effective management process at HBO.”
Topher Grace, Sarah Silverman and Patti Lupone have joined the cast of HBO’s comedy pilot “People In New Jersey,” which is being executive produced by Lorne Michaels. Grace and Silverman will play siblings, and Lupone will play their widowed mother.
Steven Macri has been named chief financial officer at Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, reporting to chairman and chief executive John Hogan. Macri joins from LogicSource, where he was also chief financial officer.
Hearst Magazines has named Andriana Verdi home editor at Woman’s Day magazine, effective Oct. 14. Verdi most recently covered the home and fashion markets at Whole Living.
Julie DeGarmo has joined Real Simple magazine, becoming associate publisher of sales. DeGarmo was previously associate publisher at More magazine.
