MichaelKayNew York Yankees announcer Michael Kay has signed a new multi-year deal with YES Network, under which he will continue to call games and host the network’s “CenterStage with Michael Kay,” along with other shows and specials. Kay has been with YES since it launched in 2002, winning three Emmys along the way.

Metta World Peace, the professional basketball player formerly known as Ron Artest, is developing a “Punk’d”-style hidden-camera show in which pro athletes would pull pranks on each other. The Los Angeles Laker is working on the show with LMNO Productions, which is behind the CBS shows “I Get That a Lot” and “Fire Me.”

Fox News Channel has cut ties with former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, according to The New York Times, although it’s not clear if the move was Palin’s choice. They apparently had a salary dispute. Since January 2010 Palin had been working with the network as a contributor on shows including “On the Record.”

ABC’s Barbara Walters has had a rough couple weeks, but it appears she’s finally on the road to recovery. Just days after “The View” co-host fell and cut her head at a pre-inauguration party, Walters developed chicken pox and has since been resting at a hospital in New York. Walters is expected to be released soon, and her “View” partners are keeping a sense of humor about the situation. On Monday morning’s episode of the show, Whoopi Goldberg said in a message to Walters, “We love you. We miss you. We just don’t want to hug you.”

Time Warner has promoted Kevin Tsujihara to chief executive officer at Warner Bros. Entertainment, which includes the company’s TV and film divisions. Tsujihara had been president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Singer Norah Jones has agreed to appear on ABC’s telecast of the Academy Awards, performing the nominated song “Everybody Needs a Friend” from the movie “Ted.” The Oscars ceremony airs on Feb. 24.

Telenovela actor Juan Soler has signed an exclusive deal with Telemundo under which he will appear in the network’s original productions. Soler had been with Televisa, appearing in novelas including “La Fea Mas Bella” and “La Otra.”

Last year NBC pushed “Today” Ann Curry out of her co-host position to a more nebulous “anchor-at-large” post, and that apparently means no live interviews on the network. According to The New York Post’s Page Six, Curry has been barred from doing live interviews, most likely so the network has a chance to edit them first. The Post also claims Curry has been trying to get out of her contract with NBC, and that new CNN head Jeff Zucker is trying to woo her to join the cable news network.

Havas Worldwide has named Sarita Bhatt director of global strategy, reporting to global president Andrew Benett. Bhatt had been managing director in charge of social platforms in Havas Worldwide’s New York office.

Quartz has brought in Gina Chon as a corporate reporter, covering businesses and their leaders. Chon had been at The Wall Street Journal for the past seven years, most recently covering mergers and acquisitions.

Radio

Former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb has joined NBC Sports Radio as a contributor, beginning this week. McNabb will begin his stint with the network on radio row from the Super Bowl in New Orleans, and he’ll also have a large role in an upcoming daily talk show scheduled to launch April 1.

Newspapers

Stanley Karnow, a journalist and author who worked for Time magazine, The Washington Post and other publications, died over the weekend at age 87 after suffering from congestive heart failure. In 1983 Karnow published the book “Vietnam: A History,” which coincided with a 13-part documentary on PBS.
