Comedy Central has ordered a pilot for “Another Period,” a scripted comedy starring actress and comedian Natasha Leggero, from Ben Stiller’s production company Red Hour, according to Deadline. Leggero is familiar with Comedy Central—she appeared on the network’s roast of James Franco and voices a character on its animated series “Brickleberry.”
Viacom has named Martha Riley senior vice president of music sales, working with the cable networks in its Music and Logo group, including MTV, MTV2, mtvU, VH1, VH1 Classic, Palladia and Logo. Riley has been with the company for 20 years, most recently as vice president.
Crown Media Family Networks has made three promotions, naming Kristen Roberts executive vice president of pricing, planning and revenue management; Susanne McAvoy executive vice president of marketing, creative and communications; and Michelle Vicary executive vice president of programming and network publicity. Roberts has been with the company since 2000, McAvoy since 2007 and Vicary since 1999.
Discovery Communications has promoted JB Perrette to president of Discovery Networks International, replacing Mark Hollinger. Perrette has been with Discovery since 2011.
USA has added Jane Kaczmarek to the cast of “Playing House,” its upcoming comedy starring Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair. The former “Malcolm in the Middle” actress will play the mother of St. Clair’s character.
Josh Engroff has taken on dual roles, becoming chief digital media officer at The Media Kitchen as well as managing partner at the agency’s parent company kbs+ Ventures. Engroff was previously general manager of mobile at Distillery.
Publicis agency Rosetta has promoted Tammy Soares to managing partner, working in the agency’s technology and telecommunications industry group. Soares has been with the agency since 2008.
Boston Globe Media Partners executive vice president Andrew Perlmutter will take charge of oversight of the company’s digital business next month, taking over for departing vice president of digital products and Boston.com general manager Jeff Moriarty. Perlmutter joined the company last year from Newsweek/Daily Beast.
Glam Media has brought in Ulrich Schmidt as senior vice president and general manager for Glam Germany, also working with Europe market development. Schmidt is a former chief executive at ad pepper media, which he founded.
John Haskin has been named chief marketing officer at 33Across, a digital advertising technology company. Haskin was most recently senior vice president of marketing at Vibrant Media.
Tapad, a mobile marketing technology firm, has named George Gemelos senior vice president of data science, based in New York. Gemelos was most recently a director at the scientific research company D.E. Shaw Research.
Actor Thomas Dekker has been named a series regular on Fox’s upcoming series “Backstrom,” after appearing as a guest star in the show’s pilot, which was filmed for CBS. Fox picked up an option on the Rainn Wilson series after CBS passed on it. Dekker has experience at Fox–he previously appeared on “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.”
