PBS's timely look
at natural fuel

Oil, that is. See its many uses besides in our cars.

   Black gold. Texas tea.
“Extreme Oil,” airing tonight at 10 p.m. on PBS, explores the magical black substance found in everything from clothes, laundry detergent, toothpaste, cosmetics, furniture, contact lenses and office supplies to telephones, CDs, tennis rackets, painkillers and plastic.
Oh, yeah, and it helps fuel our cars, too.
The point is that oil is in a lot more of what we use than most people actually think about, which heightens the importance of the unstable situation in the Middle East.
“Extreme Oil” explores where tomorrow’s oil is going to come from and just how far we are willing to go to get it.
