One nun's story:
Puzzle of stigmata

Our doctor on 'House' seeks to unravel a mystery

Fox got critics buzzing about “House” and now with tonight’s episode, which guest stars Elizabeth Mitchell ("The Lyon's Den"), the network is hoping to nab viewers as well. Maybe the title will do it: "Damned if You do."
With religious undertones as we approach Christmas, tonight's episode has the ever-rude doctor treating a nun who claims to have stigmata, or sores associated with the crucifixion wounds of Jesus. Her hands are swollen and cracked.
But is it stigmata or allergies? Her condition worsens by the hour, and her fellow nuns begin praying for her. Can the doctor save her by puzzling out the real cause of her illness? Audiences will surely wonder what inappropriate things will dribble from his mouth as he attempts to do so.
"House" has been struggling against “The Amazing Race” and ABC’s comedy lineup with an average rating near a 5.0. It needs to pull in viewers through the strength of its writing and the great character developed in Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie). Fox has been promoting tonight's episode heavily, and it will be curious to see whether it works to pull a larger audience.
If not, the show should get a huge boost in January when “American Idol” returns to serve as its lead-in. But with Fox's weak lineup so far this season, it would surely be happier to see "House" make it on its own.
