Ho-hum, it's 'Sharon,'
if anyone still cares

Osbourne wife debuts troubled new talk show

Sharon Osbourne's new talk show is debuting one year too late to capitalize on Osbournes mania.

While the family was last summer's hottest story, viewership for their MTV show cooled in its second season, to the point where viewership for last month's finale was at half the level of the first season.

Still, Sharon herself is a savvy businesswoman and had positioned herself for post-"Osbournes" life well before Jack went into rehab or she allegedly left Ozzy, a juicy tidbit that she just happened to let loose to Barbara Walters last week on the eve of her new show's debut.

So today "The Sharon Osbourne Show" finally arrives. There had been rumors of on-set problems, including Sharon's bossiness and obtuseness and the lack of big-name guests willing to appear. That had some people worried about a show that was pegged, along with "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," as fall's potential syndicated standouts.

The curiosity factor should drive decent ratings in week one, but if Sharon starts out low, she may never recover. Poor time slot positioning (she's on at midnight on Chicago's WGN) could also slow her.
