big ad page winners
Double-digit increases for the Atlantic, Vanity Fair . . .

Some magazines have all the luck.
The Atlantic Monthly, Conde Nast Traveler, Details, National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Parenting, Scientific American and Vanity Fair all won National Magazine Awards this week.
All of these titles also posted double-digit percentage gains in advertising pages through the first four months of the year, according to figures released yesterday by the Publishers Information Bureau.
In fact, nearly all of the Ellie winners are up strongly in pages. Sports Illustrated is alone in reporting a decline, with pages down 3.9 percent to 740 through April, while The New Yorker, which took home two trophies, is up a modest 3.6 percent, with 648.1 pages. ESPN the Magazine also is up in the single digits, with 441.8 pages, a 7.2 percent rise.
Architectural Record, Foreign Policy, Harper's, The Nation and The American Scholar also won National Magazine Awards, but none of them report to the PIB.
Overall, ad pages for the magazine industry were down 2.3 percent in April, but year-to-date they are up 3.1 percent from the same period last year.
The Atlantic Monthly, which won two Ellies, one for general excellence, is up 30.5 percent in pages through April, with 193.3. Revenue is reported to be up 36.4 percent to $9.5 million.
Parenting won the general excellence award for magazines with circulation greater than 2 million. The Time Inc. title logged 351 ad pages through April, a 26.4 percent increase. Revenue was up 20.5 percent to $49.7 million.
Texas Monthly, a general excellence winner for magazines with circulation from 250,000 to 500,000, reports a 19 percent increase in pages for a four-month total of 497.5. In revenue, the magazine is up 12.1 percent, with $7 million through April.
