Slate and BBC win for general excellence

Want all the lowdown on who was killed, maimed or paralyzed at amusement parks this summer?
Check out ThemeParkInsider.com’s Accident Watch, a running tally of casualties inflicted on visitors to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags and other places of recreation.
It’s not exactly pleasure reading, but Accident Watch was good enough to earn an award for Independent Service Journalism in the Online Journalism Awards, sponsored by the Online News Association and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
Judges reviewed 870 entries from web sites in 15 different countries, although only English-language sites were considered. Winners were chosen in 15 different categories including Breaking News, Enterprise Journalism, Feature Journalism and Creative Use of the Medium, with separate awards given for independent sites and those affiliated with a larger media entity.
