NBC
in major revamp
of fall primetime schedule
Shows shuffled and
a number are axed
NBC has
announced its new fall primetime lineup, with a variety of new sitcoms and
dramas and a number of long-awaited cancellations.
Notably, "Frasier," which moved into "Seinfeld’s"
timeslot Thursdays at 9 p.m. when that series ended two years ago, will
move to Tuesdays at 9 p.m., trading places with "Will &
Grace."
"Just Shoot Me," starring David Spade, also
moves onto Thursday, a night on which NBC has dominated for years with
such shows as "Friends," "ER" and "Seinfeld."
A number of low-rated sitcoms will not return in the
fall, including "Veronica’s Closet" with Kirstie Alley,
"Jesse" with Christina Applegate, "Suddenly Susan"
with Brooke Shields and "Stark Raving Mad."
The network will debut a new sitcom created for
Seinfeld star Michael Richards in the anchor slot on Tuesday nights. Also
new will sitcoms starring Katey Sagal of "Married…with
Children" and "Futurama," David Allen Grier of "In
Living Color" and Steven Weber of "Wings."
New dramas will include "Deadline," a series
about newspaper publishing from "Law & Order" creator Dick
Wolf; "Titans," a new Aaron Spelling-produced series starring
"Beverly Hills 90210’s" Casper Van Dien and "Baywatch’s"
Yamine Bleeth; and "Ed," a series about an attorney, created by
David Letterman’s production company, Worldwide Pants.
Vince McMahon’s Xtreme Football League will air on
Saturday nights beginning in February. Until then, the network will show
theatrical films including "Titanic," "The Truman
Show," "Godzilla" and "A Civil Action."
New miniseries will examine the women of the Kennedy
clan, the life of singer-actress Natalie Cole and the tech industry in
California’s Silicon Valley.
