| 'Early show'
skids while 'GMA' soars CBS's "Early," launched in the fall with such high hopes, has finished the fourth quarter a distant third in a three-show race for the attention of America's morning TV viewers. The latest Nielsen numbers show that the Bryant Gumbel-hosted show was actually down 7 percent from the previous year, with just 2.7 million viewers tuning in to CBS. Leader "Today" stayed about where it was, at 6 million, but ABC's "Good Morning America" picked up a raft of new watchers, rising to 4.3 million, an increase of 30 percent. Credit goes to hosts Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson, who were brought in to combat declining numbers. Ted and Jane in trial separation |
