E! has named Bruce Perlmutter senior vice president of news and online, a new position at the network. Perlmutter was most recently a senior executive producer at Fox News Channel, and he’s also worked at MSNBC and CNN.

Marc Hirschfeld has joined Starz Media as a casting consultant, where he’ll recruit talent for the network’s original programs. Hirschfeld was executive vice president of casting at NBC Universal Television Entertainment until December 2008.

There’s a new right-wing pundit at CNN. The cable news network has brought in Erick Erickson, naming him a political contributor. Erickson is editor in chief at RedState.com.

Carly Shay isn’t going anywhere. Miranda Cosgrove, star of Nickelodeon’s “iCarly,” has signed a new deal with the network that will keep her there for at least another 26 episodes, bringing the series total to 96. The 16-year-old Cosgrove started at Nickelodeon when she was 9 with a role on “Drake & Josh.”


Yahoo News has made two additions, naming Chris Lehmann managing editor of its news blog and Brett Michael Dykes a national affairs writer. Lehmann will also continue as editor of Bookforum, while Dykes joins from Gawker.



Patrick McCarthy, chairman of Condé Nast’s Fairchild Fashion Group and editor of W magazine, is leaving the company at the end of the year. The move is part of a reorganization that will return W to Condé Nast’s consumer magazine group and move out of Fairchild, which publishes fashion titles. McCarthy first joined Fairchild as a reporter in 1977, rising to chairman and editorial director 20 years later.

Meredith Corp. has made two promotions, naming Carey Witmer vice president and group publisher for its Parents network and Diane Papazian publisher of Family Circle. Witmer had been vice president and publisher at Family Circle, while Papazian was previously associate publisher.

Esquire magazine likes Josh Peskowitz’s style. The magazine has hired Peskowitz as web editor for Esquire.com, working with style, fashion and grooming. Peskowitz was previously fashion editor at men.style.com.

Mikki Taylor, beauty and cover director at Essence magazine, is retiring after 30 years with the title. Taylor will remain with the magazine as an editor at large, and Corynne Corbett will temporarily take over as beauty and cover editor.

Brian Anderson, editor of Mpls.St.Paul magazine, died on Tuesday at age 65 of mixed-phenotype acute leukemia. Anderson joined the magazine in 1977 when it was called MPLS, and he recently received a lifetime achievement award from the City and Regional Magazine Association.


“Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler and her husband, “30 Rock” actor Will Arnett, are expecting a second child in late summer or early fall. Production of season three of “Parks” will continue right after season two ends to help ease the production schedule after the baby is born.



Ad agency Carlson Marketing has promoted Todd Dexter to vice president of creative for the U.S., putting him in charge of teams in Minneapolis, Detroit and New York. Dexter rises from his previous position as vice president and group creative director.


MUNCmedia, which runs a media network that targets retail investors, has named Bradley H. Smith chief marketing officer. Smith was most recently director of the NASDAQ corporate services group.
