It looks as though the war is over. The one between Fox News Channel and the White House, that is. President Barack Obama sat down with Fox News Channel’s Major Garrett yesterday, the first time Obama has given the network an interview since former White House communications director Anita Dunn called FNC “a wing of the Republican party.” Obama gave the interview while overseas on an Asian trip, where he also gave interviews to CNN, NBC and CBS. The two did not address the spat, but Garrett did lob one unexpected question. When asked if he would read former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s new book, Obama answered, “I probably will not. But I wish her well.”
DirecTV has named Michael White chief executive officer, replacing Chase Carey, who left the company in June. White was previously chief executive officer of PepsiCo International and vice chairman at PepsiCo.
There will soon be a new head of public affairs at Lifetime. Communications head Meredith Wagner has said she plans to leave the network, effective Dec. 22. Wagner hasn't specified her future plans.
Michael Dugan has been named president and chief executive officer at EchoStar, the technology company that includes Dish Network’s set-top box division, replacing Charlie Ergen. Ergen will stay on as chairman.
“The Daily Show’s” John Oliver is branching out. Comedy Central has ordered six episodes of “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,” an hour-long program on which Oliver’s favorite comedians will perform. Oliver has been a correspondent on “Daily Show” since 2006.
Atlantic Media next year plans to launch a new digital media brand targeting business executives globally, and it will do so behind Adam Pasick. He’s been named managing editor of the new venture, which the company says will launch in early 2010. Pasick was previously U.S. editor at Reuters.com.
Here’s the buzz: Jeyme Colodne has been named editor in chief at Buzz Entertainment Magazine, an online lifestyle magazine in Atlanta. Colodne was previously SEO editor at Citysearch.com.
Jennifer Kalat is doing a 360. She has been named beauty managing director at Meredith 360°, Meredith Corp.’s marketing unit. Kalat was most recently luxury account manager at The Wall Street Journal.
National Geographic has named Jeremy Gonzalez director of research, working with the company’s ad sales group in New York. Gonzalez was previously senior manager for ad sales research at FX.
Lorraine Cademartori has moved up at ForbesLife magazine. Cademartori has been promoted to executive editor, putting her in charge of the title’s editorial production. She had been managing editor since 1998.
Hamish Hamilton is taking his act to the Oscars. He has been named director of the 82nd Academy Awards, selected by producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman. Hamilton has directed a number of live events, including the 2006, 2007 and 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Fox has brought in Tim Matheson to direct “Jack and Dan,” its upcoming pilot starring Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford. Diana-Maria Riva has also joined the cast of the show as Jack and Dan’s boss.
Jim Moscou is changing agencies, though he’s staying in Boulder, Colo. Moscou has joined TDA Advertising & Design, becoming director of strategy and development. He was previously with Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Boulder, where he worked on the Microsoft and Alliance for Climate Protection accounts.
