Former president Bill Clinton is returning to Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” Clinton will make his fifth appearance on the show on Thursday, sitting down with host Jon Stewart and discussing the Clinton Global Initiative. The former president last appeared on the show on Sept. 23 of last year.

Actor Patrick Swayze died yesterday at age 57 after battling pancreatic cancer for nearly two years. Swayze was best known for his roles in the movies “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost,” and most recently he starred in A&E’s “The Beast,” which was canceled after one modestly rated season.

Does he even have time for golf? Actor Ray Romano will be the subject on the upcoming season of Golf Channel’s “The Haney Project,” in which Hank Haney will try to improve the star’s golf swing. Romano is also set to star in TNT’s upcoming “Men of a Certain Age.”

HGTV has crowned its latest “Design Star.” Antonio Ballatore, a set designer from Los Angeles, won season four of the reality competition and will be awarded with his own show, to premiere in January 2010. Ballatore will also star in a one-hour special on HGTV on Sunday at 10 p.m.


Unicast, which creates and manages online advertising, has turned to Daniel J. Berra to handle its research and analytics. The company has named Berra vice president of business intelligence, and he will analyze all the company’s campaigns. Berra was previously vice president of the customer insight group at The Think Tank.

Miles Dennison has been named senior vice president of sales at DoubleVerify, which tracks and verifies online ad transactions. Dennison was previously vice president of sales at Tremor Media.

Sports Illustrated has a new digital director. The magazine has named Rob Kligman national digital director at SI.com, effective immediately. Kligman was most recently vice president of media sales at 8020 Media.

Diane Berry has been named vice president of marketing and communications at Coveo Solutions, a search technology company. Berry previously held a similar position at Taleo Corp.



Rebecca Hessel has moved to a more cosmopolitan title. Cosmopolitan magazine has promoted Hessel, moving her to senior fashion editor. She had been associate fashion editor.


Kathryn Joosten, who plays Karen McCluskey on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” has been diagnosed with cancer in her left lung. Joosten had cancer in her right lung in 2001 and had part of it removed.

Keith Floyd, a British TV chef, died yesterday at age 65 after suffering a heart attack. Floyd appeared on series such as “Floyd on Fish” and “Floyd on France” beginning in the 1980s, and was known for his trademark bowtie and glass of wine.


Steven Kurutz is moving from one New York newspaper to another. Kurutz has joined The Wall Street Journal, where he’ll work as a reporter. He was previously a contributor at The New York Times.

Newspapers aren’t hiring a ton of people these days, but they still are making promotions. One of the latest is at the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., where Jean Porter has been moved to managing editor. Porter was previously the paper’s First Amendment editor.
