MTV has promoted Marnie Black to senior vice president of communications. Black will oversee all internal and external communications for the network, including press strategies for its channels, and will also be involved with the upcoming launches of new programming and special events.

Scripps Network has hired Hal Rosenberg as senior vice president of affiliate sales, where he will oversee all national accounts and field activity for the department. Prior to joining Scripps, Rosenberg was College Sports Television senior vice president of affiliate sales and marketing.

Cartoon Network Enterprises has made a number of changes in its staff. Peter Yoder has been hired as director of hard lines, where he will develop and manage areas such as toys, games and novelty items for the network's original series. In addition, Mitra Jerald has been promoted to senior director of brand planning and business development, while Denise Gomez has been hired as manager of retail development and William Graham joins as manager of soft lines.


HumWare Media Corporation, a new media advertising company, has added two to its senior management team. Robert Sweed is now the vice president of sales and marketing, while Brad Vespe becomes vice president of national accounts. Vespe and Sweed were formerly executives at Execucard Marketing.

Studio One Networks, a multimedia syndicator, has hired Kimeran Daley as vice president of program partnerships. Prior to joining Studio One, Daley worked on mobile distribution with CNN, Cartoon Network and TCM in Europe and Africa.


After eight years on the air, Erich "Mancow" Muller's contract with flagship station Q101 Chicago is not being renewed. His last broadcast on the station will be Friday. Mancow's other 35 affiliates will be unaffected by this move, says his syndicator, Talk Radio Network.

ABC News Radio has hired Steven Portnoy as a Washington D.C.-based correspondent. Portnoy was previously at ABC-owned WMAL-AM in Washington for three years as anchor and reporter, and has also worked in Syracuse, N.Y., for WSYR-AM.

Envision Radio Networks has bumped up Rebecca Pixley to the newly created position of vice president of affiliate relations. Pixley has been with Envision since 2004, when she joined as director of affiliate relations; prior to that, she was director of operations at MJI Broadcasting and Premiere Radio Networks.


Mansueto Ventures, publisher of Fast Company and Inc. magazines, has made several new hires in its consumer marketing department. Patrick Hainault comes over from Time, Inc., and is now consumer marketing director of both titles; Brian Knowles , previously at Meredith Publications, is third-party sources marketing manager; Tracy Chan, previously at Forbes, is traditional marketing manager; and Ryan Mattek, a recent graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, is now an assistant marketing manager.


Mark Victor has become a senior producer at NBC News' "Today", overseeing all aspects of the show's third hour and its booking department. Victor joined "Today" last year, and had held various posts within NBC Universal prior to that.

ABC News has promoted Jeffrey W. Schneider to senior vice president of communications, where he will continue to oversee news communication for the Disney-ABC television group. He will be responsible for all communication strategies and campaigns. Prior to joining ABC News as vice president six years ago, Schneider was director of public relations at the William Morris Agency.

Former ABC News "Nightline" anchor Ted Koppel is returning as a guest to his old show after stepping down last November. He will be appearing Tuesday via satellite hookup for a discussion on the Cuban detention center hearings being held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.




A familiar face on Broadway, the big screen and television, longtime actor Barnard Hughes died yesterday at the age of 90. Hughes appeared in a variety of plays and movies over the years, and worked extensively in early television in such shows as "Playhouse 90," "Kraft Theater," and "Armstrong Circle Theater." He won an Emmy in 1977 for his guest-starring role on "Lou Grant."
