Mark Pasetsky, former editor in chief of Life & Style weekly, has launched a new site called Shakiki.com, which will focus on daily celebrity and political news. Pasetsky was editor at Life & Style for three and a half years.

Championship Gaming Series, a worldwide professional video gaming league, has named Rachael McLean vice president of digital media, in charge of online product development. The league has also hired Jim Downs as director of online media.



Popular Mechanics magazine has named Tara Cox managing editor, effective May 12. Cox joins from Every Day With Rachael Ray, where she had been managing editor since 2006.

Leah McGrath has been named editor at large at both Trader Monthly and Dealmaker magazines. McGrath had been contributing editor at Doubledown Media.


Aaron Brown, the former CNN anchor who left the air more than two years ago, is returning to TV as part of PBS’s “Wide Angle.” Brown, who has been teaching at Arizona State University as its Walter Cronkite Professor of Journalism, will begin on July 1.

The namesake of PBS’s “NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” will be returning to the air soon. Lehrer had successful heart-valve surgery last week and he’s expected to return to the air within the coming months.

Former public relations manager Adam Jasinsky won the most recent season of CBS’s “Big Brother” last night, beating out college student Ryan Quicksall. He may have won the competition, but he lost his job. Jasinsky had done PR for the United Autism Foundation but was fired for comments he made about autistic kids during his “Big Brother” run.

NBC’s “ER” has added actress Angela Bassett to the cast for its final season, her first full-time TV job. Her first appearance will come in the second episode of next season.

Jay Mohr, Paula Marshall and Jaime King have all signed on to star in a comedy pilot for CBS from Ed Yeager. Mohr will play a recently divorced dad dealing with an ex-wife, kids and a new girlfriend.



Ian Beavis has joined Carat as the agency’s executive vice president and executive client director, to help lead various accounts worldwide. Beavis was previously vice president of marketing, public relations and product planning for Kia Motors America.

Brand consultancy Added Value has named Janine Hawkins chief executive officer, effective on June 1. She replaces Angus Porter, who is becoming group strategy director at Thomas Cook.


The Nielsen Company has named John Burbank chief marketing officer, a new position at the company, effective May 9. Burbank currently holds the same position at AOL.

Singer Janet Jackson took home a Vanguard Award from the 19th annual GLAAD Media Awards honoring depictions of gays and lesbians in entertainment over the weekend. ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” won best TV drama, while “Ugly Betty” won for best comedy series, the second year running for both shows. Bravo’s “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” won for best reality show.
