Discovery Networks has appointed Tom Cosgrove senior vice president of programming for Discovery Channel, Discovery Times Channel, The Science Channel and Military Channel. Cosgrove, who had previously worked as general manager for TV Guide Channel, will now oversee programming activities for the network's various platforms. In addition, Discovery Networks also has named Jeff Goldberg vice president of programming and scheduling and Hannah Beckerman director of development.
The Weather Channel has promoted Mike Pons to vice president of corporate strategy and development, reporting to general manager and executive vice president Wonya Lucas. In this new role, Pons will head up strategic planning for the company's growth efforts.
ABC Family has cast "Sabrina the Teenage Witch's" Melissa Joan Hart and "Dancing with the Stars" runner-up Mario Lopez in its upcoming original movie "Holidays in Handcuffs." Hart will play an aspiring painter who suffers a nervous breakdown after blowing a job interview and kidnaps Lopez's character so that she can bring him home for Christmas and show him off as her boyfriend.
Games Media Properties, organizer of video game competitions and tournaments, has appointed James Green as its new chief executive officer, where he will focus on the digital media agenda for 2007. Green had previously been with Cablevision, after having served as CEO for wireless digital media company GiantBear. In addition, Games Media has appointed current operative CEO R. Michael Leo as a board member.
Glenn Beck, currently a "CNN Headline News" and radio talk show host, is joining ABC's "Good Morning America" as a regular commentator. Becks ratings have skyrocketed since he joined Headline News earlier this year.
NBC Universal Television Studio has upped Richard Rothstein to senior vice president of cable programming, reporting to NBCU president Angela Bromstad. Rothstein, who had been vice president of cable programming, will oversee development of NBCU programs for channels including USA Network and Sci Fi.
NBC Media Productions has appointed Benjamin Ringe executive director of development, overseeing creation and development of multiplatform nonfiction series and content for NBC Universal and outside clients. Before joining NBC, Ringe had been director of development for Banyan Productions.
Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer, co-stars who met on the set of Fox's hit medical drama "House," are engaged, according to People.com. Morrison and Spencer portray Dr. Allison Cameron and Dr. Robert Chase, respectively.
Joe Keohane, editor of Boston's Weekly Dig, is stepping down in February, to be replaced by music, food and commerce editor Michael Brodeur. Keohane, who has been with the Dig for five years, now intends to write full-time.
Carl E. Hirsch, co-founder and executive chairman of NextMedia Group, is leaving his position. Hirsch is planning to pursue the creation of new ventures in radio, television and other media.
World Wrestling Entertainment has hired Geof Rochester as senior vice president of marketing, reporting to executive vice president of marketing Kurt Schneider. Rochester, who will now oversee marketing, research, creative services and public relations, had been senior vice president of marketing at Showtime Networks.
Independent programming distributor Castalia Communications has named Marc Olivier vice president of strategy and development. Reporting to president Luis Torres-Bohl, Olivier will work to produce new business ventures for the company and oversee Castalia's activities in Latin America.
