HBO leads Golden Globe nominations with 17
December 13, 2012
It was no surprise at all that HBO led the list of Golden Globe television nominations announced this morning, garnering 17.
It's led in total nominations for the Globes and Emmys for years now.
What was a surprise: Former winner "Mad Men," which had earned four straight best drama Emmys before being beaten by Showtime's "Homeland" in September, did not even score a nomination in the best drama category.
That's a shocker. Although the most recent season didn't draw the same critical raves as past years, it was still expected to be nominated.
Other surprises included a nod for NBC's first-year musical drama "Smash" in the best comedy/musical category. The show was largely ignored by the Emmys.
ABC's "Nashville" was the only other new show to receive significant nominations, with Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere both getting nods.
The HBO movie "Game Change," a big winner at the Emmys, led all nominees with five. "Homeland" had the second-most with four.
