Friday overnights: ‘Boss’ leads CBS to first
January 22, 2013
On a night where the series finale of “Fringe” dominated the buzz coming into the night, CBS dominated the ratings.
All three of CBS’s programs set or matched season highs among viewers 18-49, leading the network to a first-place finish for the night in the demo.
CBS averaged a 1.7 rating and 5 share among 18-49s in primetime, according to Nielsen overnights. The network’s 8 p.m. reality show “Undercover Boss” was the top program of the night with a season-high 1.9 in 18-49s, and it also set a season best with 9.45 million total viewers.
“Fringe,” meanwhile, averaged an unremarkable 1.0 in 18-49s for its two-hour series ender. The show did hit a season high in total viewers with 3.2 million, marking its most-watched episode in nearly a year.
For the night, Univision finished second among 18-49s with a 1.5 rating and 5 share, with ABC third at 1.3/4, NBC fourth at 1.1/3, Fox fifth at 1.0/3, Telemundo sixth at 0.6/2 and CW seventh at 0.4/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback, which includes shows replayed before 3 a.m. the night before. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Forty-six percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. CBS led with the 1.9 for “Boss,” followed by Univision with a 1.4 for “Por Ella Soy Eva.” ABC was third with a 1.2 for “Last Man Standing” (1.3) and “Malibu Country” (1.1), Fox fourth with a 1.1 for “Fringe,” NBC fifth with a 0.9 for repeats of “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers,” Telemundo sixth with a 0.6 for “Rosa Diamante” and CW seventh with a 0.4 for “Nikita.”
Univision took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 1.7 for “Amores Verdaderos,” while CBS slipped to second with a 1.6 for “CSI: NY.” ABC was third with a 1.5 for a repeat of “Shark Tank,” NBC fourth with a 1.1 for “Dateline,” Fox fifth with a 1.0 for more “Fringe,” Telemundo sixth with a 0.5 for “La Patrona” and CW seventh with a 0.3 for a repeat of “Beauty and the Beast.”
CBS and Univision tied for first at 10 p.m., each with a 1.5 rating, CBS for “Blue Bloods” and Univision for “Amor Bravio.” NBC was third with a 1.3 for more “Dateline,” ABC fourth with a 1.2 for “20/20″ and Telemundo fifth with a 0.6 for “Pablo Escobar: El Patron Del Mal” (0.6) and “El Rostro de la Venganza” (0.6).
