‘Dexter’ draws another series high in finale

December 19, 2012

Share |

dexterIn the wake of Friday’s Newtown, Conn., school shootings, a number of networks and movie studios played down ultra-violent content.

Shows were pulled off the air, and movie premieres were canceled.

But Showtime made no such move with its graphic, grisly serial killer drama “Dexter,” and apparently people had no qualms about watching it.

“Dexter” drew a series-high 2.8 million total viewers on Sunday at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen, the best for any series in the pay cable network’s history.

Including replays later in the night, “Dexter” drew an audience of 3.4 million.

Lead-out “Homeland,” which won the best drama Emmy for last year’s first season, drew its second-biggest audience, 2.3 million. Another 400,000 tuned in to repeats of the finale later that night.
