Ads on hoods of taxis


Hard to miss as fares line up to jump in

Taxis are a favorite place for ads, inside and out, from the signs on top to screens in the passengers' compartment and even the hubcaps.

Here's a new place: the hood. 

Nashville’s AutoHood Media, a subsidiary of X-Treme Sports Group, has developed a way to get ads on the hoods of cars, which seems a perfect way to grab the attention of those waiting and getting into cabs.

Called the AutoGlove, the product was originally designed to simply protect the hoods of high-end cars, but it now serves another purpose—advertising on cabs and company cars.

“Taxi hoods are an available area of real estate that isn’t presently being used unless you wrap the entire car,” says John Griffin, CEO of X-Treme Sports Group.

Among the advantages, versus other forms of vehicle ads, it takes just minutes to put the ad on or swap it with another ad, say, at a change of shifts. To completely wrap a car using conventional ad wraps can mean taking the car out of service.

Griffin says the AutoGlove can be put on in about five minutes and removed in around 30 seconds.

Pep Boys Auto will use the AutoGlove on its vehicles come February, and Griffin says his company is in talks with several of the country’s largest taxicab companies.
