Big ‘Bang:’ CBS wins with all repeats
A rerun of 'The Big Bang Theory' is tops with a 2.4 in 18-49s
July 6, 2012
CBS has premiered just one new show so far this summer, and so not surprisingly it often lags in last place among the Big Four broadcast networks.
But not last night. Despite the fact that CBS aired all reruns, against original competition on ABC and Fox, the network still posted a solid Thursday night victory.
An 8:30 p.m. rerun of CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" was the night's highest-rated show with a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights.
An earlier "Bang" rerun at 8 p.m. was the night's No. 2 show with a 2.1. Those were the only two shows of the night to score above a 2.0.
Original programming didn't fare nearly as well as "Bang" repeats. The highest-rated original show on the night was ABC's "Wipeout," which averaged a 1.7 at 9 p.m., down 15 percent from last week's season debut.
Timeslot rival "The Choice" on Fox averaged a 1.6, up 33 percent from last week.
CBS led the night among 18-49s with a 1.7 average overnight rating and a 5 share. Fox was second at 1.4/5, Univision third at 1.4/4, ABC fourth at 1.3/4, NBC fifth at 0.6/2, Telemundo sixth at 0.5/2 and CW seventh at 0.3/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback, which includes shows replayed before 3 a.m. the night before. Seven-day DVR data won't be available for several weeks. Forty-four percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. CBS was first with a 2.3 for repeats of "Bang," followed by Fox with a 1.3 for "Take Me Out." Univision was third with a 1.2 for "Un Refugio para el Amar," ABC fourth with a 1.0 for "Duets," NBC and Telemundo tied for fifth at 0.6, NBC for reruns of "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation" and Telemundo for "Una Maid en Manhattan." The CW was seventh with a 0.3 for "Breaking Pointe."
ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 1.7 for "Wipeout," while Fox remained second with a 1.6 for "Choice." CBS was third with a 1.5 for a repeat of "Person of Interest" and Univision fourth with a 1.4 for "Abismo de Pasion." NBC and Telemundo tied for fifth at 0.4, NBC for "Saving Hope" and Telemundo for "Corazon Valiente," and CW was seventh with a 0.2 for a repeat of "The Vampire Diaries."
At 10 p.m. Univision was first with a 1.5 for "La Que No Podia Amar," with ABC second with a 1.3 for "Rookie Blue." CBS was third with a 1.2 for a repeat of "The Mentalist," NBC fourth with a 0.9 for "Rock Center with Brian Williams" and Telemundo fifth with a 0.4 for "Decisiones Extremas."
CBS was also first for the night among households with a 4.9 average overnight rating and a 9 share. ABC was second at 3.2/6, Fox third at 2.1/4, Univision fourth at 1.9/3, NBC fifth at 1.7/3, Telemundo sixth at 0.7/1 and CW seventh at 0.5/1.
