Youngblood:
'Twilight' star meets Dave

Robert Pattinson is one hot boy on the chat circuit

Nov 18, 2009

A year ago, Robert Pattinson was just another young actor with remarkably poofy hair. That was before "Twilight" became a smash hit and his face landed on the front of every tabloid and entertainment magazine in the world.

Tonight Pattinson, who plays dreamy vampire Edward in the "Twilight" series based on Stephenie Meyer's bestselling novels, appears on "The Late Show with David Letterman" for the first time to hype Friday's release of "New Moon," the second film in the series.

The first film earned $191 million in the U.S., including an opening weekend of nearly $70 million, and "Moon" is expected to do at least as well, if not better.

That success thrust the film's previously little-known stars, the 23-year-old Pattinson and the 19-year-old Kristen Stewart, who plays the human object of Edward's lust, into the spotlight.

Over the past 12 months, there has been as much media attention paid to Pattinson and Stewart's real-life relationship as to the ailing economy. For the record, they're coy on whether they're actually an item, but they seem to enjoy baiting speculation by holding hands in public.

Tonight's Letterman" appearance is merely part of the "Twilight" blitz leading up to Friday's opener. The cast will be appearing on all the late-night shows, as well as morning news programs and the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Still, don't expect Letterman, which is averaging 3.9 million total viewers this season, to see huge ratings gains. After all, Pattinson's most devoted fans are under 18, and "Late Show" is on past their bedtime.
