Second shot: Tila's
back, and looking

Breakups hurt, but less when you're an MTV star

It was perhaps the least surprising breakup since Liza Minelli and David Gest split.

Mere weeks after Tila Tequila chose Bobby the film student over Dani the lesbian firefighter in the finale of MTV’s “A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila” in December, the two broke up, clearing the way for “Shot at Love 2.”

The second season, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m., has the same premise as the first. MySpace babe Tila Tequila, a model who purports to be bisexual, invites 32 men and women to vie for her affection. They live together in a mansion where much cattiness ensues.

Last season drew huge ratings for MTV, averaging a 3.4 in the network’s target viewers 12-34, behind only “The Hills.” That made it almost expected when Tila announced, days after the finale, that Bobby had dumped her, and she’d be appearing in another season of cable’s first bi dating program.

Of course, there have been murmurs that Tequila isn’t looking for love period.

The rumor last season, which spread across blogs and celebrity magazines, was that Tequila actually has a long-term boyfriend whom she’s still very much involved with. Bobby said on his MySpace page he didn’t so much dump Tequila as never hear from her after “Shot’s” reunion show was filmed.

But MTV viewers are used to reality shows without much reality in them, “Hills” being another example. The Tequila boyfriend rumors probably won’t affect viewership of the show, which has also spawned an upcoming spinoff called “That’s Amore,” starring one of Tequila’s season-one castoffs, Italian boy Domenico Nesci.
