The top draws on cable and broadcast and in sports

Apr 25, 2008
Share |

FRIDAY

Best bet on broadcast: Fox, “13 Going On 30,” 8 p.m. Like “Big,” only with Jennifer Garner in the Tom Hanks role.

Best bet on cable: Versus, “NHL Playoffs: New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins,” 7 p.m. The Eastern Conference semifinals begin.

Top sporting event: ESPN, “NBA Playoffs: New Orleans Hornets at Dallas Mavericks,” 8 p.m. With the Hornets up 2-0 in this best-of-seven series, the Mavs are in danger of being swept out of the playoffs for the second straight year. And that could put coach Avery Johnson’s job in danger just two seasons after making the NBA finals.

SATURDAY

Best bet on broadcast: MyNetworkTV, “World Magic Awards,” 8 p.m. This actually did quite well for MNTV in its first airing.

Best bet on cable: Nickelodeon, “Mighty B,” 10:30 a.m. Series premiere. “Saturday Night Live’s” Amy Poehler voices hyperactive Honeybee scout Bessie Higgenbottom, who’s aiming to earn more badges than any bee in history.

Top sporting event: ESPN and NFL Network, “NFL Draft,” 3 p.m. The Miami Dolphins have the No. 1 pick.

SUNDAY

Best bet on broadcast: ABC, “NBA Playoffs: San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns,” 3:30 p.m. Unless the Suns can win tonight, they’ll be facing elimination at the hands of the defending champs.

Best bet on cable: Showtime, “Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union,” 10 p.m. Season finale. Tracey takes on imitations of Helen Mirren and Suzanne Somers.

Best bet on public broadcasting: PBS, “The Carrier,” 9 p.m. Series premiere. This 10-part documentary follows the crew aboard the U.S.S. Nimitz.
