FRIDAY
Best bet on broadcast: Ion, “The Wonder Years,” 10 p.m. It’s a slow night on the Big Five broadcast networks, so get nostalgic with the former Pax channel, whose ratings were actually up slightly this year.
Best bet on cable: Discovery, “Edge of Existence,” 8 p.m. Series premiere. Reporter Donal MacIntyre travels around the world to live with primitive societies, tonight landing in the Arabian Desert.
Top sporting event: ESPN2, “Women’s Softball College World Series,” 7 p.m. Games 5 and 6 are played as a doubleheader.
SATURDAY
Best bet on broadcast: NBC, “Stanley Cup Finals: Anaheim at Ottawa,” 8 p.m. The Ducks have a 2-0 lead on the Senators headed into tonight’s Game 3.
Best bet on cable: Hallmark Channel, “Marco Polo,” 8 p.m. Ian Somerhalder, the late Boone on ABC’s “Lost,” plays the intrepid Venetian adventurer in this original movie.
Top sporting event: Fox, “Major League Baseball,” 3:30 p.m. Most of the country will see the latest edition of the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees rivalry, which has been pretty one-sided recently. But viewers in Houston and St. Louis will see the Astros and Cardinals play.
SUNDAY
Best bet on pay cable: HBO, “Entourage,” 10 p.m. Season finale. The third season, the show’s most-watched yet thanks to its “Sopranos” lead-in, ends with Drama looking for a new pad.
Best bet on cable: Lifetime, “Army Wives,” 10 p.m. Series premiere. Kim Delaney (“NYPD Blue”) and Catherine Bell (“JAG”) star in this soapy drama about military spouses.
Top special event: MTV, “MTV Movie Awards,” 8 p.m. What happens when the notoriously randy event goes live for the first time, giving censors less time to react? Well, the network hopes it will jumpstart ratings for the long-fading show.
