Cable has already gained audience share and awards prestige over broadcast in recent years. Now add one more thing to that list: DVR viewing.

Cable programs led broadcast in terms of percentage increase in time-shifted viewing, according to a year-end report released by Nielsen Friday.

The six top-gaining shows were on cable. The first broadcast show, NBC's "Heroes," doesn't pop up until No. 7 on the list, and only four total broadcast programs made the top 10 (which actually includes 12 shows, as three of them tied for 10th).

Syfy's "Battlestar Galactica" led all programs, getting a 59.4 percent boost from live to live-plus-seven-day-DVR-playback. AMC's "Mad Men" was second at 57.7 percent, with FX's "Damages," the lowest-rated show in the top five, third at 56.3 percent.

FX's "Rescue Me" was fourth at 53.2, and HBO's "True Blood" and Syfy's "Stargate Universe" tied for fifth at 46.9.

"Heroes" had a time-shifted boost of 45.9 percent. Other broadcast shows in the top 10 were Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," Fox's "Dollhouse" and the CW's "Melrose Place."

Nielsen also released the top 10 shows of the year in terms of household viewing, including live-plus-same-day-DVR-playback viewing.

Fox's "American Idol" Wednesday edition was first at a 14.4 household rating, followed by the Tuesday edition at 13.8. ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" was third at 12.0, followed by NBC's "Sunday Night Football" at 11.7 and the "Stars" results show at 9.9.

CBS's "NCIS: Los Angeles" was the top scripted program at 9.8, followed by the network's "NCIS" at 9.4.
