Frances Fragos Townsend who recently left the Bush Administration as chief anti-terrorism and homeland security adviser, has joined CNN as a contributing on-air analyst. Townsend has served under the past three presidential administrations.


ContextWeb’s ADSDAQ Exchange has made two promotions, moving Jay Sears to executive vice president of strategic products and business development and Shanthini Sarkar to chief product officer. Both Sears and Sarkar previously held the title senior vice president of operations and product management.

Travel Ad Network, a network that focuses on online travel sites, has promoted Brian Silver to president, effective immediately. Silver first joined the company in December as chief operating officer.


Katz Tri-State Radio Group, which handles around 60 stations in suburban New York, has named Ed Whitman vice president and director of sales, joining from a similar position at Cumulus Media. Bruce Feniger also joins Katz Tri-State Radio Group as a senior account manager.


Teri Mollison has been named vice president and group publisher of the creative enthusiast and design group at F+W Publications, a new division at the company. Mollison was previously group publisher of the manufacturing, supply chain and metals group at Penton Media.

PC World editor in chief Harry McCracken is leaving on June 2 after 14 years with the magazine. McCracken plans to start his own web site that, among other things, will feature product reviews for the tech-savvy set.

Olivia Monjo, vice president and editor in chief of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.’s Home and Woman’s Day Special Interest Publications, died over the weekend, according to the company. Monjo had been with the company for 17 years.


Sony Pictures Television International has promoted Jamie Weissenborn to senior vice president of digital media and global ad sales, reporting to president Andy Kaplan. Weissenborn had been vice president of global ad sales for international networks since 2004.

“Maverick” and “Rockford Files” star James Garner is doing well and should be headed home shortly after being hospitalized late last week due to a minor stroke. Garner turned 80 last month.


The Wall Street Journal has hired Jason Zweig as a personal finance columnist, beginning on July 1. Right now Zweig is a senior writer and columnist for Money magazine.


GroupM Trading, which oversees MindShare, MediaCom, Mediaedge:cia and Maxus, has named Alexander Schmidt-Vogel global CEO, a new position at the company. Schmidt-Vogel is currently CEO of MediaCom Worldwide, and he’ll step into his new position once his successor is found.

Retail sales promotion agency TPN has promoted Daniel Warhaftig to account director, where he’ll work with the company’s Gatorade retail account. Warhaftig was previously an account supervisor.


Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios has named Bedi A. Singh president of finance and administration and chief financial officer, putting him in charge of the company’s financial activities. Singh was previously executive vice president and chief financial officer at Gemstar-TV Guide International.
