A&E has ordered a pilot for the drama “Sugarloaf,” starring actor Matt Passmore. Passmore will play a former Chicago cop who joins the state police in Florida.
Evan Smith isn’t messing with leaving Texas. He’s been named editor of the Texas Tribune, a web site focused on state news. Smith was previously editor in chief at Texas Monthly.

Roger Neal, general manager of BusinessWeek’s online operations, is leaving the title following its sale to Bloomberg. Neal first joined the magazine in 2006 as director of strategic partnerships.
Call Dillon McDonald for a jumpstart: He’s been promoted to chief executive officer at Jumpstart Automotive Group, part of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.’s auto media assets. McDonald had been chief operating officer.
Publishing Group of America has made a slew of moves, including naming Barbara LaPlaca senior vice president and marketing director. The company has also hired Kathy Goodman as Midwest director, Erica Queen as health manager, and Paul Mallon as Detroit manager.
Martha Stewart and Rachael Ray are crossing over. On Nov. 12 Stewart will appear on “The Rachael Ray Show,” where she will make a Thanksgiving centerpiece, while Ray will make a Thanksgiving dessert on “The Martha Stewart Show” the next day. This will be the first time for each on each other’s show.
Cue that majestic Olympics music. Adam Freifeld has been promoted to senior communications director at NBC Universal Sports and Olympics, up from his position as director of communications for NBC Sports. NBC Universal Sports and Olympics has also added Chris McCloskey, naming him senior vice president of communications.
There’s a new editor at the New York Observer. The newspaper has named Kyle Pope editor, replacing interim editor Tom McGeveran as of the Dec. 9 issue. Pope is a former reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal and Condé Nast Portfolio. McGeveran exits after five months as interim editor, though he has been with the paper for years.
R. Vann Graves is joining up again, so to speak. He’s moved to McCann New York as group creative director, working on the MasterCard and U.S. Army accounts. Graves was most recently chief creative officer at UniWorld, and he’s also a former lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Carolyn Cramer is going Tribal. She has joined digital marketing agency Tribal Fusion, becoming director of sales for Canada. Cramer was most recently national sales manager for the Canada search division at Yahoo.
Minneapolis agency Carmichael Lynch has made a few moves, including promoting Mike Lescarbeau from president and chief creative officer to chief executive officer. Doug Spong will take over as president and become a managing partner, while former executive creative director Jim Nelson will become chief creative officer.
Euro RSCG London has added Mick Mahoney to its staff, naming him executive creative director. Mahoney was previously a creative director at BBH.
