for ABC's 'FlashForward'

"FlashForward's" future isn't looking very promising.

The ABC sci fi drama, about what happens when the entire world experiences a 2-minute, 17-second glimpse of the future, returned last night to a series low after a three-month hiatus, overshadowed by the tipoff of CBS's NCAA men's basketball tournament.

"FlashForward" averaged a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating from 8 to 10 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, off 10 percent from the show's most recent outing in December.

"FlashForward" may have been hurt by the absence of an original "Grey's Anatomy," which took the night off to make way for "FlashForward's" two-hour episode. Without "Grey's," people were less likely to be watching ABC.

"FlashForward" also aired opposite the NCAA tourney, which was up 3 percent compared to last year over the same three hours, though those are preliminary numbers and will likely change when other time zones are taken into account.

On NBC, the news was better for another first-year show, "The Marriage Ref," which was up 8 percent over last week to a 2.8 in its third outing, no doubt benefitting from the lack of original competition on ABC, which aired a repeat of "Private Practice."

CBS led the night among 18-49s with a 3.7 average overnight rating and an 11 share. NBC was second at 2.7/8, ABC third at 1.6/5, Univision and Fox tied for fourth at 1.4/4, and CW sixth at 0.6/2.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-six percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Also, ratings for CBS’s NCAA basketball are approximate as fast nationals measure timeslot and not actual program data.

At 8 p.m. CBS was first with a 3.5 for basketball, followed by NBC with a 2.0 for “Community” (2.1) and “Parks and Recreation” (2.0). ABC was third with a 1.9 for “FlashForward,” Univision fourth with a 1.7 for “Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe,” Fox fifth with a 1.5 for a repeat of “Bones” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a “Vampire Diaries” rerun.

CBS led again at 9 p.m. with a 4.2 for more basketball, while NBC remained second with a 3.3 for “The Office” (3.6) and “30 Rock” (3.0, best rating since December). ABC was third with a 1.9 for the second half of “FlashForward,” Univision fourth with a 1.3 for “Corazon Salvaje,” Fox fifth with a 1.2 for a “Fringe” rerun and CW sixth with a 0.6 for a repeat of “Supernatural.”

At 10 p.m. CBS was first with a 3.6 for basketball, with NBC second with a 2.8 for “Ref.” ABC and Univision tied for third at 1.1, ABC for a repeat of “Private Practice” and Univision for “Mujeres Asesinas.”

CBS was also first for the night among households with a 6.5 average overnight rating and an 11 share. NBC was second at 4.2/7, ABC third at 3.8/7, Fox fourth at 3.5/6, Univision fifth at 1.8/3 and CW sixth at 1.0/2.
