Tyra on fira:
Hot debut for 'Top Model'

The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” continued the trend seen for aging reality shows from “The Bachelor” to “The Biggest Loser” this winter: It grew.

The two-hour 12th-season debut of the Tyra Banks-hosted modeling competition averaged a 3.4 rating among women 18-34 last night, according to Nielsen overnights, up 13 percent in the network’s target demo over last fall’s premiere.

That lifted the CW to No. 2 in the demo for the night, behind only “American Idol”-driven Fox.

“Model,” the network's No. 1 show, was up 11 percent among total viewers, to 3.9 million, and the CW finished ahead of NBC in adults 18-49 from 8 to 10 p.m.

It was welcome news for the network after a disappointing return for “Reaper” one night earlier. Tuesday’s second-season premiere averaged just a 0.8 overnight rating in 18-34s, finishing sixth in its 8 p.m. timeslot.

That’s down one point from its first-season debut, though this year it had no lead-in support while last year it aired behind “Beauty and the Geek.”

Meanwhile, though Fox dominated the night thanks to “American Idol,” the show’s lead-out, “Lie to Me,” fell to a season-low 3.6 18-49 rating after a one-week layoff. It was down 17 percent from its most recent outing two weeks ago, which averaged a 4.2.

That could be a bit of a concern for the network, which plans to move “Lie” to the 8 p.m. timeslot to lead off the night later this month.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Twenty-eight percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Fox led the night among 18-49s with a 5.7 average overnight rating and a 15 share. ABC was second at 2.9/8, CBS third at 2.2/6, CW fourth at 1.8/5, Univision fifth at 1.7/4 and NBC sixth at 1.5/4.

At 8 p.m. Fox was first with a 7.7 for “Idol,” with NBC second with a 1.8 for “Knight Rider.” Univision was third with a 1.7 for “Cuidado con el Angel,” ABC fourth with a 1.6 for a “Lost” rerun and CBS and CW tied for fifth at 1.5, CBS for repeats of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried,” and CW for the first hour of “Model.”

ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 4.8 for “Lost,” while Fox slid to second with a 3.6 for “Lie.” CBS was third with a 2.4 for a repeat of “Criminal Minds,” CW fourth with a 2.0 for more “Model,” Univision fifth with a 1.9 for “Mañana Es para Siempre” and NBC sixth with a 1.3 for a repeat of “Life.”

At 10 p.m. CBS moved into first place with a 2.7 for a “CSI: NY” rerun, followed by ABC with a 2.1 for “Life on Mars.” NBC was third with a 1.6 for a repeat of “Law & Order” and Univision fourth with a 1.4 for “Don Francisco Presenta.”

Fox was also first for the night among households with a 9.6 average overnight rating and a 15 share. CBS was second at 5.8/9, ABC third at 4.4/7, NBC fourth at 3.6/6, CW fifth at 2.6/4 and Univision sixth at 2.1/3.
