On a sleepy
Thursday, Fox wins night

Network averages a 2.4 in 18-49s, 26 percent ahead

Jun 27, 2008

During the regular season, Thursday nights are the most competitive of the week. During the summer, they’re turning into a real snoozer.

Fox won a low-rated evening last night on the strength of “So You Think You Can Dance,” the night’s top-rated show among adults 18-49. The network averaged a 2.4 rating and 8 share in the demo, according to Nielsen overnights, 26 percent better than second-place NBC’s 1.9/6.

“Dance” averaged a 3.0 at 9 p.m., even to last week and 0.7 ahead of the hour’s second-place show, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” That show, which aired from 8 to 10 p.m., had its best rating since its May premiere.

But the Big Four networks’ combined 7.0 rating was lower than the previous three nights this week. ABC, which managed a mere fifth-place 1.1/4 for the evening, had much to do with the dip, as two of its repeats couldn’t even crack a 1.0.

CBS took third for the night at 1.7/6, Univision fourth at 1.6/5, and CW sixth at 0.5/2.

At 8 p.m. Fox and NBC tied for first at 1.8, Fox for “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” and NBC for the first hour of “Comic,” while Univision and CBS tied for third at 1.7, Univision for “Al Diablo con los Guapos” and CBS for a repeat of “Million Dollar Password.” That left ABC fifth with a 0.8 for a repeat of “Ugly Betty” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a “Smallville” rerun.

Fox took sole possession of first pace at 9 p.m. with a 3.0 for “Dance,” followed by NBC with a 2.3 for more “Comic.” CBS and Univision once again tied for third at 1.7, CBS for a repeat of “CSI” and Univision for “Fuego en la Sangre,” with ABC fifth with a 0.9 for a repeat of “Grey’s Anatomy” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a repeat of “Supernatural.”

At 10 p.m. CBS took the lead with a 1.9 for “Swingtown,” with ABC second with a 1.6 for the series premiere of the medical docu-series “Hopkins.” NBC was third that hour with a 1.5 for “Fear Itself” and Univision fourth with a 1.4 for “La Rosa de Guadalupe.”

Among households, Fox led the night with a 4.8 average overnight rating and a 9 share. CBS was second at 4.5/8, NBC third at 3.3/6, ABC fourth at 3.0/5, Univision fifth at 2.0/4 and CW sixth at 1.0/2.
