With ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" off the schedule and CBS's "CSI" a repeat, NBC's "The Office" saw its rating bump up over its last original outing, boosting the show to a rare No. 1 for the night.
"Office" averaged a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, finishing first in the 9 p.m. timeslot, beating ABC's "Private Practice."
"Office" was up 11 percent over its most recent original episode on Nov. 19, which averaged a 3.7.
That came against weaker-than-usual competition. "Grey's" is usually the No. 1 show on the night, but a two-hour "Practice" took its place last night. And the "CSI" repeat managed only a 2.3.
Fox's "Fringe" also benefited from the weaker 9 p.m. competition, posting its best rating since its premiere, a 2.5.
Meanwhile, ABC and CBS tied for first for the night among 18-49s, each with a 2.9 average overnight rating and an 8 share. Fox was third at 2.7/7, NBC fourth at 2.4/6, Univision fifth at 1.4/4 and CW sixth at 0.8/2.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-three percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. CBS led with a 3.9 for “Survivor,” followed by Fox with a 2.9 for “Bones.” ABC was third with a series-low 2.2 for “FlashForward,” NBC fourth with a 2.1 for “Community” (2.2) and “Parks and Recreation” (2.1), Univision fifth with a 1.4 for “El Nombre del Amor” and CW sixth with a 0.8 for a repeat of “The Vampire Diaries.”
NBC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 3.6 for “Office” (4.1) and “30 Rock” (3.0), while ABC moved to second with a 3.1 for “Practice.” Fox was third with a 2.5 for “Fringe,” CBS fourth with a 2.3 for a repeat of “CSI,” Univision fifth with a 1.8 for “Sortilegio” and CW sixth with a 0.8 for a “Supernatural” rerun.
ABC jumped to the lead at 10 p.m. with a 3.4 for more “Practice,” with CBS second with a 2.6 for a repeat of “The Mentalist.” NBC was third with a 1.5 for “The Jay Leno Show” and Univision fourth with a 1.1 for “Rosa de Guadalupe.”
CBS led the night among households with a 7.0 average overnight rating and an 11 share. ABC was second at 5.9/9, Fox third at 5.2/8, NBC fourth at 3.5/6, Univision fifth at 1.9/3 and CW sixth at 1.3/2.
