"Parenthood's" rating slipped one week after NBC renewed the first-year show, but it still managed to beat both its timeslot competitors last night.
"Parenthood" averaged a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating at 10 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, down 17 percent from last week's 2.9.
But it was still ahead of its first-year competition in the hour, CBS's "The Good Wife" (2.2) and ABC's "V" (1.9), both of which sank to series lows. "V" was the only show that did not have an original lead-in, however, airing behind a "Lost" a repeat.
"Parenthood" has won the timeslot five of six weeks now, which evidently convinced NBC to renew the show.
But "Parenthood," "Wife" and "V" were hardly the only series to decline last night. Fox's "American Idol" was off 4 percent from last week, and CBS's "NCIS" and ABC's "Dancing with the Stars Results" both hit season lows.
Fox was first for the night among 18-49s with a 5.9 average overnight rating and a 16 share. CBS was second at 2.9/8, NBC third at 2.7/7, ABC fourth at 2.0/5, Univision fifth at 1.7/5 and CW sixth at 0.6/2.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-six percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. Fox was first with a 6.6 for “Idol,” followed by CBS with a 3.4 for “NCIS.” ABC and NBC tied for third at 2.3, ABC for “Stars” and NBC for “The Biggest Loser,” with Univision fifth with a 1.8 for “Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe” and CW with a 0.7 for “90210.”
Fox was first again at 9 p.m. with a 5.3 for “Glee,” while NBC and CBS tied for second at 3.2, NBC for more “Loser” and CBS for “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Univision was fourth with a 2.1 for more “Dinero,” ABC fifth with a 1.8 for a repeat of “Lost” and CW sixth with a 0.4 for a “Life Unexpected” rerun.
At 10 p.m. NBC took the lead with a 2.4 for “Parenthood,” with CBS second with a 2.2 for “Wife.” ABC was third with a 1.9 for “V” and Univision fourth with a 1.2 for “Aqui y Ahora.”
Among households, CBS led the night with a 9.2 average overnight rating and a 15 share. Fox was second at 9.1/14, ABC third at 5.0/8, NBC fourth at 4.3/7, Univision fifth at 2.1/3 and CW sixth at 0.9/1.
