do poorly on NBC The USA imports finish fourth in their timeslots Apr 7, 2008 On cable, USA’s “Monk” and “Psych” are two of the top-rated shows, but on broadcast they proved to be more of an afterthought. The NBC premieres of the repurposed shows, which first aired on cable earlier this season, drew low ratings. “Monk” averaged a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating in its 8 p.m. timeslot, according to Nielsen overnights, while lead-out “Psych” fell to a 1.3. Both finished fourth in their timeslots, though “Monk” did beat Fox’s competing rerun of “The Simpsons” and original “King of the Hill” among total viewers, averaging 5.65 million to the latter’s 5.36 million. NBC did point out that “Monk’s” 18-49 rating increased 23 percent from its first half hour to its second while “Psych” saw similar growth among adults 18-34. The shows were imported as part of NBC’s writers’ strike strategy. The strike made the networks desperate for original content, and the two shows weren’t the first cable shows to make the jump. USA’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and Showtime’s “Dexter” have also aired on broadcast to generally low ratings after successful cable runs. Still, the shows could all benefit when they resume their original cable runs by drawing in new viewers who found them via broadcast. ABC finished first on a slow night on broadcast, averaging a 2.9 overnight rating and an 8 share. Fox was second at 2.3/6, CBS third at 2.1/6, NBC fourth at 1.5/4, Univision fifth at 1.1/3 and CW sixth at 0.4/1.
