"The Voice" and "Smash" did not maintain last week's huge ratings, but they still did pretty well for NBC last night.
"Voice" averaged a 5.9 among adults 18-49 from 8 to 10 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, off 12 percent from a 6.7 for last week's timeslot debut.
But the show still dominated the competition, with CBS's entire comedy lineup and Fox's drama lineup all posting season lows.
And "Voice" led NBC to its second straight Monday win, while also posting NBC's second-best non-Olympic rating in its timeslot since 2007, behind only last week's performance.
"Smash" didn't hold up quite as well. The 10 p.m. drama averaged a 2.8 and fell 26 percent from last week's much-hyped 3.8 debut, though it still won the timeslot over CBS's "Hawaii Five-0" and ABC's "Castle" in 18-49s; the other two shows finished ahead in total viewers.
"Smash" remains by far NBC's highest-rated 10 p.m. program, but it may take another few weeks to see whether it's a real hit, depending on where its ratings settle.
The critically acclaimed musical drama's rating did slide again from its first to its second half, down 19 percent from a 3.1 in 18-49s to a 2.5.
Elsewhere last night rival shows had a tough time of it on Valentine's Day eve. All of CBS's comedies were down from the previous week, with "Two and a Half Men" the top draw with a 3.8 at 9 p.m.
And Fox's 9 p.m. "Alcatraz" continued its slide to a 1.9, off 17 percent from last week's 2.3.
NBC finished first for the night among 18-49s with a 4.9 average overnight rating and a 12 share. CBS was second at 3.3/8, ABC third at 2.3/6, Fox fourth at 2.1/5, Univision fifth at 1.4/4, CW sixth at 0.6/1 and Telemundo seventh at 0.5/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback, which includes shows replayed before 3 a.m. the night before. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Forty-three percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. NBC was first with a 5.4 for "Voice," followed by CBS with a 3.6 for "How I Met Your Mother" (3.4) and "2 Broke Girls" (3.7). ABC and Fox tied for third at 2.4, ABC for "The Bachelor" and Fox for "House," with Univision fifth with a 1.6 for "Una Familia con Suerte," Telemundo sixth with a 0.6 for "Una Maid en Manhattan" and CW seventh with a 0.5 for "Gossip Girl."
NBC extended its lead at 9 p.m. with a 6.4 for more "Voice," while CBS remained second with a 3.6 for "Men" (3.8) and "Mike & Molly" (3.3). ABC was third with a 2.5 for more "Bachelor," Fox fourth with a 1.9 for "Alcatraz," Univision fifth with a 1.3 for "El Talisman," CW sixth with a 0.6 for "Hart of Dixie" and Telemundo seventh with a 0.5 for "Flor Salvaje."
At 10 p.m. NBC led again with a 2.8 for "Smash," with CBS second with a 2.6 for "Hawaii Five-0." ABC was third with a 2.0 for "Castle," Univision fourth with a 1.5 for "La Que No Podia Amar" and Telemundo fifth with a 0.4 for "Relaciones Peligrosas."
NBC was also first for the night among households with a 7.9 average overnight rating and a 12 share. CBS was second at 6.5/10, ABC third at 5.4/8, Fox fourth at 4.1/6, Univision fifth at 1.8/3, CW sixth at 0.9/1 and Telemundo seventh at 0.7/1.
