Fox's "American Idol" took another hit in its third week, down 10 percent from last Tuesday's episode. But it still managed to more than double the rating of the night's No. 2 show, CBS's "NCIS."
"Idol" averaged an 8.9 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, off from last week's 9.9.
Still, the smash reality show beat the combined competition on the other Big Five networks in the 8 p.m. hour, if just by 0.1. And while "NCIS" may have stolen a few 18-49 viewers, after airing a repeat last week, "Idol" remained dominant. "NCIS" averaged a 4.1 in their shared 8 p.m. hour, down 5 percent from its last original episode two weeks ago.
Among total viewers things were a bit closer. "Idol" drew 24.2 million to "NCIS's" 20.1 million.
Despite "Idol" lead-out "Human Target" once again losing more than 60 percent of "Idol's" lead-in, Fox won the night with ease.
The network posted a 6.1 average rating and a 16 share in primetime. CBS was second at 3.3/9, NBC third at 3.2/9, Univision fourth at 1.5/4, ABC fifth at 1.3/3 and CW sixth at 0.4/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-four percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. Fox was first with an 8.9 for “Idol,” followed by CBS with a 4.1 for “NCIS.” NBC was third with a 3.2 for “The Biggest Loser,” Univision fourth with a 1.4 for “Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe,” ABC fifth with a 1.1 for “Scrubs” (1.2) and “Better off Ted” (1.0) and CW sixth with a 0.4 for a repeat of “90210.”
NBC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 4.4 for more “Loser,” with CBS second with a 3.8 for “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Fox was third with a 3.2 for “Target,” Univision fourth with a 2.0 for “Sortilegio,” ABC fifth with a 1.3 for a repeat of “Lost” and CW sixth with a 0.4 for a “Melrose Place” rerun.
CBS moved to first at 10 p.m. with a 2.1 for a repeat of “The Good Wife,” while NBC slipped to second with a 2.0 for “The Jay Leno Show.” ABC was third with a 1.5 for more “Lost” and Univision fourth with a 1.2 for “Aqui y Ahora.”
CBS was first for the night among households with a 9.9 average overnight rating and a 16 share. Fox was second at 9.6/15, NBC third at 5.2/8, ABC fourth at 2.2/3, Univision fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 0.7/1.
