Hefty gains for NBC's 'Biggest Loser'
'Couples' edition averages a 3.8 in 18-49s, up 19 percent

With only seven contestants left, the competition is heating up on NBC’s “Biggest Loser: Couples” and so are the ratings.
Last night, the show delivered a 3.8 average overnight rating among 18-49s over its two hours of broadcast, according to Nielsen overnight.
That’s up 19 percent from the previous week’s 3.2 rating. Even better, the show’s ratings grew 27 percent from the first hour against Fox’s “American Idol” to the second, when it went up against ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” results show.
The seventh season of “Loser” has been averaging 10.2 million total viewers, the show’s biggest audience since the its first season, according to NBC.
Meanwhile, Fox’s “Fringe” continues to face challenges.
In its second outing after returning from a long hiatus, the show averaged a 4.4 last night, down 6 percent from the previous week. While no slacker, doing well enough to win the 9 p.m. timeslot, it lost some 46 percent of “Idol’s” lead-in.
It also lost viewers from the first half hour to the second, going from a 4.9 in 18-49s to a 3.9.
Still, paired with “Idol,” the show helped power Fox to an win for the night, with a 6.3 average overnight rating among 18-49s and a 16 share.
NBC was second with 3.3/9, CBS third with 2.6/7, ABC fourth with 2.1/6, Univision fifth with 1.7/5 and CW sixth with 1.0/3.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Twenty-eight percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m., Fox dominated with a 8.2 for “Idol,” followed by NBC with a 3.3 for “Loser,” CBS with a 2.5 for an “NCIS” repeat, Univision with a 1.7 for “Cuidado con el Angel,” ABC with a 1.2 for “According to Jim” and CW with a 0.9 for “Reaper.”
At 9, Fox held on to its lead with a 4.4 for “Fringe,” followed by NBC with a 4.2 for “Loser,” ABC with a 3.4 for “DWTS” results show, CBS with a 2.4 for a repeat of “The Mentalist,” Univision with a 2.0 for “Manana Es para Siempre” and CW with a 1.2 for “90210.”
At 10, CBS took the lead with a 3.0 for “Without A Trace,” followed by NBC with a 2.4 for “Law & Order: SVU,” ABC with a 1.8 for “Cupid” and Univision with a 1.5 for “Aqui y Ahora.”
Among households, Fox was first with a 10 rating and 15 share, CBS second with 8.2/13, ABC third with 5.6/9, NBC fourth with 5.2/8, Univision fifth with 2.1/3 and CW sixth with 1.4/2.
