The widest-reaching telethon in history aired on nearly three-dozen networks Friday night and raised close to $60 million, according to early reports.

Sixteen million people tuned in to the "Hope for Haiti" telethon from 8 to 10 p.m. across the Big Five broadcast networks, according to Nielsen overnights.

ABC led with 4.6 million total viewers, followed by NBC with 4.5 million and CBS with 4.3 million. Fox averaged 1.75 million, with 854,000 tuning in on the CW.

The five networks collectively averaged a 4.6 18-49 rating, though no single network averaged more than a 1.2.

The telethon also drew millions more viewers on cable, where networks as diverse as MTV, MLB Network and HBO aired the star-studded event.

So far $58 million has been raised for victims of the devastating earthquake, which hit more than a week ago.

Meanwhile, ABC, NBC and Univision tied for first Friday night among viewers 18-49, each with a 1.3 average overnight rating and a 4 share, with CBS fourth at 0.9/3, Fox fifth at 0.6/2 and CW sixth at 0.3/1.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-four percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Note that from 8 to 10 p.m., the Big Five all aired "Hope."
At 8 p.m. NBC and Univision tied for first at 1.2, Univision for “Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe.” ABC was third at 1.1, CBS fourth at 0.9, Fox fifth at 0.6 and CW sixth at 0.3.

Univision took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 1.9 for “Sortilegio,” followed by NBC at 1.3, ABC at 1.2, CBS at 1.0, Fox at 0.6 and CW at 0.3.

At 10 p.m. ABC jumped to the lead with a 1.5 for “20/20,” followed by NBC with a 1.4 for “Dateline.” Univision was third with a 1.0 for “Rosa de Guadalupe” and CBS fourth with a 0.9 for a repeat of “Medium.”

ABC was first for the night among households with a 3.4 average overnight rating and a 6 share. NBC was second at 3.0/5, CBS third at 2.7/5, Univision fourth at 1.8/3, Fox fifth at 1.1/2 and CW sixth at 0.6/1.
