Daylight savings time walloped the broadcast networks last night, with television usage levels falling 8 percent from the week before as people stayed out to enjoy the later sunset.

Fox won a generally low-rated night with its lineup of "House" and "24" averaging a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating and 9 share, according to Nielsen overnights, 21 percent ahead of second-place CBS with most of its lineup in repeats.

"House" was the night's top show with a 4.0 at 8 p.m., an hour that was especially impacted by the daylight savings. "House" was off 17 percent from last week.

In the same hour, CBS's "Rules of Engagement," without an original "How I Met Your Mother" lead-in, slid 25 percent from last week's debut, to a 2.7. And NBC's "Chuck," still hoping to secure a fourth season, hit a series-low 1.9 rating.

The only network to see week-to-week increases at 8 was the CW, whose "Life Unexpected" had its best outing in nearly two months, possibly bolstering its chances for renewal.

"LUX" averaged a 1.8 in women 18-34, beating CBS and NBC and up 29 percent over the previous week. It also grew week to week among every other major demo.

Meanwhile, among 18-49s, ABC placed third for the night at 2.1/6, NBC fourth at 1.7/5, Univision fifth at 1.3/4 and CW sixth at 1.0/3.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-six percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m. Fox was first with a 4.0 for “House,” with CBS second with a 2.4 for a repeat of “Mother” and a new “Rules” (2.7). ABC was third with a 2.0 for the first half of “20/20,” NBC fourth with a 1.9 for “Chuck,” Univision fifth with a 1.6 for “Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe” and CW sixth with a 1.0 for “Life Unexpected.”

CBS took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 3.8 for repeats of “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory,” while Fox slipped to second with a 2.7 for “24.” ABC was third with a 2.5 for more “20/20,” NBC fourth with a 1.5 for “Trauma,” Univision fifth with a 1.3 for “Corazon Salvaje” and CW sixth with a 1.0 for “Gossip Girl.”

At 10 p.m. CBS was first again with a 2.3 for a repeat of “CSI: Miami,” while ABC and NBC tied for second at 1.8, ABC for a “Castle” rerun and NBC for an original “Law & Order.” Univision was fourth with a 0.9 for “Cristina.”

Fox led the night among households with a 6.0 average overnight rating and a 10 share, followed closely by CBS at 5.9/10. ABC was third at 5.2/8, NBC fourth at 3.8/6, Univision fifth at 1.7/3 and CW sixth at 1.3/2.
