Averages a 19.0 in 18-49s for NFC championship

As expected, Fox scored huge ratings for the NFC Championship game between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints last night, though exactly how huge won't be known until later today.

From 7 to 10:30 p.m., Fox averaged a 19.0 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights. That includes the primetime portion of the game, but not the part that aired from 6:46 to 7 p.m.; the game ended at 10:27.

The overnights measure only timeslot and not actual program data, and they do not account for time zone differences. More reliable numbers will be out later today.

Still, it's safe to say that Fox obliterated the competition. The 19.0 rating was by far the highest for any broadcast on television this season, and the early numbers put the game's total viewership at 52 million.

The other Big Four networks, airing mostly reruns, averaged a combined 16.6 million viewers and 3.8 rating.

Perhaps most impressively, Fox averaged a 43 share among 18-49s during primetime, meaning nearly half of the 18-49 viewers watching TV during that time were tuned in to Fox.

The Saints defeated the Vikings and star quarterback Brett Favre 31-28 in overtime.

Lagging way behind Fox for the night, ABC was second among 18-49s at 1.9/4, CBS third at 1.3/3, Univision fourth at 0.9/2 and NBC fifth at 0.6/1.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-four percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Also, ratings for NBC’s figure skating are, like Fox's NFL ratings, approximate as fast nationals measure timeslot and not actual program data.

At 7 p.m. Fox led with a 19.4 for football, followed by ABC with a 1.5 for a repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” CBS was third with a 1.3 for “60 Minutes,” Univision fourth with a 0.8 for the first hour of the movie “La Madrecita” and NBC fifth with a 0.6 for “Dateline.”

Fox was first again at 8 p.m. with an 18.0 for football, with ABC second with a 2.2 for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Univision was third with a 1.1 for the second half of its movie, CBS fourth with a 1.0 for a repeat of “CSI: NY” and NBC fifth with a 0.4 for another hour of “Dateline.”

At 9 p.m. Fox was first with a 19.7 for more football, followed again by ABC with a 2.6 for another hour of “Home Edition.” CBS was third with a 1.3 for a “Cold Case” rerun, Univision fourth with a 1.0 for the first hour of “Mujeres Asesinas 2: La Gala” and NBC fifth with a 0.5 for the first half of the “U.S. Figure Skating Championships.”

Fox led at 10 p.m. with a 13.4 for the end of football and its postgame coverage, with CBS second with a 1.7 for a repeat of “CSI: Miami.” ABC was third with a 1.3 for a repeat of “Desperate Housewives,” Univision fourth with a 0.9 for more “Mujeres Asesinas” and NBC fifth with a 0.6 for figure skating.

Among households, Fox led the night with a 25.5 average overnight rating and a 38 share. CBS was second at 4.3/6, ABC third at 4.0/6, NBC fourth at 2.6/4 and Univision fifth at 1.2/2.
